Unaccustomed as I am to public grumping, I am put out this morning.

A few days ago I took the van to the garage after the family L-driver put a hole in the sump. I also took the snow tires in the back so that they could be swopped onto the wheels and asked Aura-Lee in the office to make sure
  • the oil haemorrhage was fixed, and
  • the snow tires were swopped on

Got a message from them yesterday: "Your van's ready"
"Did you put the snow tires on?"
"Oh. No. Are they with the van?"

So I will continue to ride the bike on urgent errands through the icy blasts...

Home Delivery Network Limited (and in my experience they are very limited) "attempted a delivery" of some books from Amazon at 12.27 today, except they didn't because I was here. At 12.27.

I wasn't listening to music.
I'm not deaf.
I'm not dead.
And I wasn't doing anything, erm, distracting.

Am I the only one (as one says) who hates Home Delivery Network Limited? This is the third time this has happened. The second time it happened I told Amazon I would never order any books from them again if they used Home Delivery Network Limited to (non-) deliver them. But, of course, I was lying.

Royal Mail, Parcelforce I have had no problems with (which might just be good luck. Well, once with Parcelforce. But they sorted it out).

I don't live in the middle of nowhere. It's the middle of somewhere. Surrounded by houses and flats & other houses & other flats.

Sigh.

It's just one of those things, of course Sad

I've now had two e mails from two different people at Amazon assuring me it will be OK because they've arranged for the books to be delivered tomorrow which is no use because tomorrow isn't OK and then blithely ignoring me when I've pointed this out and asking me to confirm I live where I live & where all my other orders with them for the past 2 years or so have been sent &  Cry

I'm heating my home at night because I have a young child who gets up several times and throws the covers off in his sleep.

Perhaps that's because he becomes too hot... Wink

Oh how easy that would make my life!  Unfortunately that's not it.  He's almost as active at night as he is during the day and thrashes about like a whirling dervish.  He's always been very restless even as a baby.

When I used to work at home, I very often worked at night because I was looking after him all day.  I used to go to bed early and then set the alarm for the early hours and do a few hours office work through the night.  I still sometimes get up and do jobs and I'm buglered if I'm going to freeze doing it.  Wink

I have the heating on low constant, just to take the chill off.  It's not what you'd call hot in here.

I now know what the WH stands for in WH Smith...

Wholly Hopeless

They drive me mad in there....you cant find the book you're looking for because there are so many different categories...so you ask the assistant.

"Is it a romance? Sci-fi?" she says.

"I don't know, I haven't read it yet" says me.

"Well, the computer's down" she says.

"Never mind, I'll just buy my Radio Times" I say....

"You'll have to go to the front till"...

....The queue is about a mile long.

They dont deserve custom. I told my man "Dont let me go in there EVER again! It's always a wind up".

The end.

The programmer for my central heating started throwing wobblies this summer (when only timed hot water was required). The synchronous motor based dial would get stuck, lacking the power to move the switch levers. I found that a quick thump and a few turns of the dial freed things up again. However, now that winter approaches fast, I think I ought to replace it. Trouble is, what I really want in to upgrade to a more flexible programmer while I am at it, but can I find one that lets me use two room thermostats, one for the day and another for the night, can I hell. Now there's a gap in the market that could do with filling. Perhaps someone manufactures a thermostat unit which itself offers independently adjustable day and night settings. Seems a very logical thing to me. The health benefits of dropping the ambient temperature in the house at night is my main consideration. It just ain't good for you to be kept too warm at night. Indeed, the excessive room temperature experienced by Milly's youngster could well be the cause of the kicking off of the bedclothes, could it not?

Thanks for the sympathy re boiler not working. Kiss It actually turned itself on a bit later, having ignored my attempts to turn it on earlier, and the plumber couldn't see why. I asked about changing the timer thing for which I have no instructions and he just said best not touch that  Roll Eyes however I want to change the time for the heating in the morning. (I don't use the timer for the hot water anyway.) My brother suggested trying to find some instructions on the internet - it's a Vaillant boiler and there's quite a bit out there but so far I haven't found an instruction manual.

At least the house is cosy now. Time for a hot bubble bath now - fingers crossed the boiler obliges! Smiley

Merely corroborative detail, intended to give artistic verisimilitude to an otherwise bald and unconvincing narrative.

I've covered this in a previous post, but it's nothing to do with the temperature.  He was exactly the same at his parents' house and theirs was like a fridge.  He's a restless sleeper.

The room temperatures are not "excessive" either.  Low constant just takes the chill off.

For heaven's sake I don't live in a sauna here.  Roll Eyes

Mine is a Vaillant boiler, wall-mounted.  The instructions on mine are in a small compartment inside the door.  If you pm me I'll look at the serial number and if my instructions are for the same one, I'll photocopy and email them to you.

My Nan always said that bedroom temperature should be about 5 degrees lower than everywhere else.  It seems to help as our bedroom is freezing although marginally less freezing than the rest of the house!

Gosh, so's mine. So if you want instructions in German just let me know.

Erfolgt keine automatische Zündung, leuchtet Störmeldelampe. Smiley

(I don't have a timer though...)
