Mort - for what it's worth, in the hope of raising a smile after all that grim news - we call our HR dept variously "Inhuman Resources" and "Human Remains"...

I definitely want a refund on this year so far. I was informed yesterday that God Almighty, otherwise known as our Consultant, has told the nursing staff not to refer any more patients to me and has, effectively, kicked me off the Day Unit where I have worked for 13 years because I have `failed to provide an adequate service since the beginning of this year`. Of course I do accept that it was entirely unreasonable of me to deliberately break my toe and then have the nerve to get a kidney infection. I obviously have no sense of responsibility at all. BARSTEWARD!!! This now means we have to go through the farce of `discussions` with the hospice manager, then Human Resources (terrible expression) gets pulled in and I will have to get my union rep involved. All window dressing because the decision has been made already.ARGGHHHHHH!! Does anyone have a spare AK-47? Or similar...... Mort This looks like the sort of tactics that are becoming ubiquitous in the public sector. I know from my own experience (admittedly some years ago now) that you need to involve your union rep right from the start - you have the right to be represented in any meeting with management, and what they want is to be able to get you to make commitments in an informal chat, in the hope that you will back down and relinquish your rights before any formal processes are invoked. People in human resources would much prefer you to go without a fight and the presence of the union from the outset will show them that you are serious and not to be toyed with. You will also find that you are far from alone. Your union rep can advise on your rights but on the face of it the management has acted pretty unreasonably. All the best

At every one of these [classical] concerts in England you will find rows of weary people who are there, not because they really like classical music, but because they think they ought to like it. (Shaw, Don Juan in Hell)

HO! to all. Roslynmuse - Human Remains. Oh I will cherish that one! Not to mention use it `Human Resources` always makes me think of that film Soylent Green. Not a happy association, but possibly accurate. Unfortunately my union rep is, erm, well, carp. The last person she represented got kicked out but did get £££. This person has repped for me before with a singular lack of success. After we left one meeting she said to me `Well, you were done up like a kipper there`. Maybe she`s in the wrong job. Still, I won`t go down without a fight. In the meantime, I wish The Consultant extensive root canal work without anaesthetic. Just for starters... Thanks to all for your kind thoughts.

Er, is that legal? I know it's not 'unfair dismissal' as you have not been dismissed, but it does sound decidedly dodgy. Your Human remains person really is rubbish. Have you a union rep who can help....? Very best wishes, and if it doesn't work out, maybe you are better off somewhere else (like the garden?) Tommo

Mort All the relevant above are right. Get representation, NOW. If it's as serious as you suggest.

Mort If she is that bad, is there a sort of area supervisor for the union that you can go over her head to consult ?

BobbyZ, yes I do have another contact and she has teeth, if you see what I mean. I`ll get on to her next week. If all else fails, then I`ll go in with my secret weapon ..... I`d probably have more success with him than with the current rep!

May be he would be better, though it is always better if it is possible to do it a nice way.

`..... though it is always better if it is possible to do it a nice way.` I agree t-p. I absolutely hate confrontation, it makes me feel ill. Unfortunately some people thrive on it. My manager is rather like this

Mort, I'm sending you my cousin to help. He may look daft, but he packs a hell of a punch in an industrial tribunal.

Your cousin is good, he may be helpful. I think the manager is awful and look at her teeth!!! Important thing Morticiaa to take care of your salad and other things in the garden and to keep your mind on good things. There are good people in this world too and they help each other.

Morticia, You have our sympathies, and in these sort of situations, I always think "what goes around comes around" and something bad is due to happen to them in return.

Mort,
I am MORTIFIED ! Have just got back from a week off and read your rant. Honestly....what are people like? It will all be to do with saving money, you can bet your bippy.
All that hospice nicey-nicey stuff - then they behave like this to someone who has given their all for the patients.
GRRR ! Am I angry?
