I know how you feel. Often I feel to stay in and do nothing. It is not bad to stay in and rest. Sometimes one can be amused with radio or people. With computer you are really never alone and can entertain yourself, I found.
Then things are not so bad.
you see that there are people outthere with their lives, their tastes etc and one doesn't feel so isolated.
May be we have to be sometimes inactive to recharge our batteries. As long as one is content and in positive mood it is ok.
Did I understand you correctly?

Lord Byron has a good heart. We all give you a big hug.
In my case I sometimes have no energy. I put it down to overwork and overexaggerated emotions.

A good cause usually spring us to actions that is for sure. One has to find some interest, but it is not always easy.
Some days are flat. But then again if one is distracted from that state the energy is there.

t-p i used to be just loath to start, now continuing is a challenge. on days like today. i suspect i should get a check up, and exclude physical problems like giving up smoking and taking regular exercise. i have the computer potato blues!

A cause, especially an angry one can be a big help. i have a big grump in my own feelings about how parking is so maladministered in our twon, but today i just feeel let the swines get on with it!

I admire people who are fighters and have energy to take on the world. May be I give up too easily. If there is nothing can be done with parking it is better to preserve one energy and make one happy with flowers and good happy thoughts.
Things are well. Ofcourse smoking less will be good and going for a nice walk to enjoy the nature is nice. I try to distract myself from brooding thoughts.
Lord Byron is good. He often says Life is fab. It makes me smile.
Now my student is here. She doesn't like to play and doesnt want to do it. But somehow I cheered myself up.

I feel that our society at the moment sets huge store by being "busy". It has become a virtue to be doing all the time. What's wrong with thinking? What's wrong with just being from time to time? Standing and staring? How do you appreciate anything if you are constantly active?

(Milly, I am not getting at you. The "you" in my sentences should probably really be "one". You (Milly) obviously have reason to be busy, as we have all had at some points in our lives. I'm just pointing out that there isn't anything wrong with not being busy all the time.)

Calum - regarding your town's parking problem - it's much easier to say as you did, "let them get on with it" and I wish I could be like that in a way.  Unfortunately, there is something inside me that when I'm flattened by life's vicissitudes, keeps getting up and fighting.  I'm sort of dead but can't lie down.

I feel dead and numb inside most of the time....and yet there is still a spark.  I usually can rally round because I'm always for the underdog and let's face it, there are plenty of injustices in this world to go at.

I wish I hadn't bought the Mail now.  I only did because I heard about the "sand" article, but there's another piece in about that vile Richard Dawkins.  He can raise me from the doldrums instantly because practically everything he says infuriates me.  Today, when speaking of the lady at BA who wanted to wear her cross he is quoted as saying "She had one of the most stupid faces I have ever seen."

He can talk!  He then has a go at the comedian Peter Kay - apparently because Peter's book has beaten Dawkins' in the popularity stakes.  Peter's cardinal sin is admitting that he was brought up a catholic and although he doesn't practice religion, finds his faith comforting.   Enter Dawkins snorting with rage "How can you take seriously someone who likes to believe something because he finds it "comforting"? he asks?

Dawkins is a nasty vacuous character whose mission in life seems to be to trash other people's beliefs for fun.

I agree, I plan down time into my schedule and enjoy just pottering about and "chilling" more as have other 'things to do', variety is the thing.

I have been in London a lot recently but intend to chill out the next two weekends.

You're absolutely right Mary. What is this life if full of care?.....etc. However, if I didn't have the unfortunate character quirk I mentioned earlier, I have an awful feeling I'd probably go to bed and stay there.  It has rescued me from a life of dismal apathy and I suppose I should be grateful.

I do relax sometimes.  I'm going out with the dog now and when I'm walking and enjoying the nature, I'm fine also.

I don't know how much time / energy / patience etc. you have to deal with something like this, but could you sell it? There must be people who would be willing to buy and transport it away. Or failing that, is there a local Freecycle group?

At last - someone else who finds him as offensive as I do! The only other person who raises my blood pressure in the way that he does is Susan Greenfield - both of them take huge, destructive, delight in reducing everything that is meaningful to anyone else to a smug "all it is is genes/ neurotransmitters and we are so much smarter than you for knowing it [you little worms]"

Maybe this would be better in the rant room, but I wanted you to know, Milly, that you have struck a massive chord with me here!!!

i live in a rural idyll. it is very easy to be still, and quiet - "tranquility" is the latest estate agents and quango survey phrase i believe.

what strikes me is how the previous generation who were in their childhoods in the 10s and 20s last century spent a large part of their time walking, eight miles and back to town or another village, no cars and no buses. i grew up in central London and acquired my low energy self there, always a bus or tube.

i have actually got myself out of the house, posted a present to my sister and am feeling much livelier, now back to sorting out the accumulated crud of ages from my filing cabinets and spring cleaning the office can restart! i may just do one drawer, it will be great when it is finished but oh how idetest doing it.

i can just about remeber the obstinate three year old doing nothing in protest at being made to do, go or especially wear, something or somewhere detestable. i must be full of really angry passive resistance! freud did have a point or two. i think my lethargy has a lot to do with that age somehow. knowing that does not help me fall off the log and get weaving though!

dawkins is messianic and really does his, and my, cause only harm. i must confess also that i truly detest the greenfield lady professor. i think obnoxious public figures are one of life's MAJOR upsets. always in the media spouting the same old simpleton tripe. these two in particular should be ashamed, a vow of public silence on both their parts would be most welcome.

Kitty - the Council sell it.  They sell tons of it every day.  They have altered the shape of the shoreline by taking hundreds of tons of it for sale.  We are not allowed to sell it, we are not allowed to put it back, we can't possibly leave it where it is because we'd be buried and we've been told in no uncertain terms that we are going to be offered no help at all.

I have today been put in touch with an organisation who may take it away.  They have said we can leave it on the pavements outside for collection.  They don't realise how much there is!!!!!  Grin
