hh, I worry about my music impinging on my neighbours, which is why I have cordless headphones. That may be an avenue to explore?
I have an infrared pair (bought about 10 years ago) but something that would not be stopped by solid tenement walls would be an advantage - anyone got any suggestions? HH, glad you're feeling better. Maybe you're being too considerate to your neighbour. Listen at a comfortable volume (for you) at reasonable hours of the day. After a couple of days try asking the neighbour if it disturbs them (I think it's better to do it this way round, as asking beforehand may cause a 'pre-emptive strike'!), and if so, then at what times of the day it would be acceptable to listen. If this doesn't work out, get some headphones and let rip!
You're probably right Stuart. I'm going to try it out over the next week and just see what happens.

hh, not sure what you mean re headphones,
If I plug my infra-red headphones into my stereo in my bedroom, the very solid wall (ironically it's the most solid wall in the whole flat - the one's adjoining neighbouring flats are actually thinner) blocks the signal. So a pair that can deal with that issue would be good!

hh, if you want to travel round the flat with your headphones, sounds like you need an mp3 player. compromises quality, but you can bung anything you want on it and take the source with you.

Maybe Antheil's are radio headphones rather than infra-red ones? Or maybe even the former would have trouble with solid Edinburgh granite.

I don't so much want to travel around the flat with the headphones as be able to use the headphones in each room (if that distinction isn't too pedantic ). I've got a CD player in the kitchen which I'm happy isn't too loud so it's mainly in the lounge and bedroom that I would like to have music. I'll use my iPod for the time being but I think I may well investigate some other options. Maybe Antheil's are radio headphones rather than infra-red ones? Or maybe even the former would have trouble with solid Edinburgh granite.
I think that radio ones are generally better than infra-red ones anyway (does anyone have any opinions or cold hard facts on this?) so I may well invest in some.

This is where you should start your investigations, hh http://www.sennheiser.co.uk/uk/icm.nsf/root/09923 Infra Red need line-of-sight, hh: they also have a narrow angle of acceptance and a very limited range which makes them less reliable from a connection point of view. (In just the same way bluetooth (radio) connections for mobile accessories have supplanted IR pretty comprehensively: no matter how good the sound per se, if the connection is problematical, performance will never be very good.)

Thanks Ron. Once I've received my paycheck, I may well invest in something like that!

Ron, having read that I think it's a load of nonsense, but it would be interesting to find out from the veggies amongst us what blood group they are, which I guess is impossible unless folks are blood donors and know. On the subject of donors, I would urge people to put aside half an hour when the blood donation team is in town, you never know when you might need some. And you get a cup of tea and bikkies afterwards! I found a review of a book called 'Eat Right for Your Type', which seems to be about the blood-type/diet theory, in the journal Transfusion, which states "[...] the suggestion that individuals of a specific blood group share a large variety of physical and psychological characteristics is analogous to the field of astrology." And says that it contains a few grains of scientific truth. So; maybe not to be taken too seriously. Almost everyone who I know, who's eligible to give blood has I think. Alas, being someone who has had occasion in his life to take it up the arse, I'm not myself. It should be on my birth cert though, shouldn't it?
