Following the impact of the Simon Bolivar Y.O. at the Proms, last year, it was inspiring and deeply moving to view "Soweto Strings" on BBC 4 a short time ago.   Indeed, this ensemble also appeared at The Proms and tonight's documentary covered the work of tutor, Eleanor, sponsored by Buskaid, against a background of poverty, HIV infection and drug abuse.  Eleanor's inspired dedication was returned wholeheartedly by her ensemble and just listen to their tender playing of Gershwin's Lullaby!

The programme is repeated on BBC 4 on Friday, 18 January at 19.30, or in the early hours of tomorrow morning for insomniacs.    Either way, don't miss this exceptional and life affirming treat.    Smiley Smiley Smiley

A memory lapse  Grin  prompted me to refer to the remarkable teacher Rosemary Nalden as Eleanor!   I recorded the Soweto Strings documentary overnight on DVD and a quick shufti this morning confirmed my suspicions.

Ho!  I totally agree with Stanley Stewart.  I watched this programmme and found it very moving and somewhat humbling.  Like Stanley, I urge everybody to watch it on 18th January.  You will never regret doing so.
Cheers
