Recommendable programme on BBC 4 tv this evening about the harmonica. Covered quite a wide range, I'd thought it might be just Larry Adler and the blues ( in fact the blues was a little short changed but as they said those players would need their own programme ) but it went into interesting historical and musical detail. It seems the instrument could still be developed, is there any work going on in the more experimental field ? The programme just touched on one guy using electronic effects beyond the standard blues band amplification.

Anyway, repeated after midnight tonight and being BBC4, it may well crop up again.

Bobby, that's very interesting. I love the instrument (as you might recall!). Thanks for the heads up.

Martle, a recent encounter with the instrument did cross my mind while watching ! There were historical details about the origins and manufacture in Germany, only a few snippets about "whacky" variety / music hall acts, much more about the way the instrument works, how the sound can be manipulated etc.
