Sorry Dr Dr Mr Prof Richard Barrett. Her appearance has nothing to do with her playing, but with the fact that I need a new dress. It is very difficult to find a good (or at least not so bad) dress. I think I need one and I hate going from one shop to another. I think it is important to look all right on stage and not like a bumpkin. My friend here hates it when people don't go on stage in good cloths. It is important what the audience see as well as what the audience hear.
t-i-n, May be people are thinking both harmonically and poliphonically (in lines) and how the lines develop. I think I do (or am trying to do) that. I am not near as good as her. I like what she tells about rubato. Many pianists think that Bach should be played without rubato and that rubato began with Chopin.

I am wondering what if anything Ms Hewitt's appearance has to do with her playing.
Yes, I think that was the point of this topic...

sorry Dr Dr Mr Prof Richard Barrett This is becoming really rude. Richard explained quite clearly about 3 weeks ago that he does not have a PhD and is not "Dr" anything. Is it meant to be some kind of joke, t-p, or are you being sarcastic, or what? I used to enjoy your posts, but it's very difficult to take them seriously when they're full of these endless apologies and irrelevant YouTube links and odd ways of addressing people.

Sorry t-i-n, I did not want to annoy you. I stopped with youtube links already. I am stuck at home today and post too much. Sorry. I just don't know how to call Mr Richard Barrett. I am not sarcastic with Richard Barrett, rather feeling kind of small comparatively speaking. With my students I have to feel that I know something, but here I know that I don't.

I just don't know how to call Mr Richard Barrett. I'd call him "Richard" if I were you. Everyone else does, and he doesn't seem to mind!

Yes, I think that was the point of this topic... Understood. I was just wondering, given PG's opening post, why it contains so many photographs of her wearing party frocks.

Does anyone know if she played a Fazioli. On my car radio I couldn't make out any significant difference from the usual Wigmore piano sound, but I enjoyed the recital especially the Beethoven.

She only plays on Fazioli pianos (as far as I know). Here she is with her own grand piano Fazioli and with Paolo Fazioli.

Perhaps it is easier to talk about Angela Hewitt's clothes and lipstick than to make any kind of intelligent assessment of her playing, given that she chose to play standard repertoire that has been interpreted and recorded by thousands of other pianists.
I rather like the red dress.
The Rusbridger interview is enlightening and is further proof that people who are good at playing a musical instrument should shut up and play.

I agree with you, Peter Grimes. Some people can talk very well and some has to play and not talk too much. She is a good pianist. She plays Bach, Scarlatti and other standard repertoire well and she doesn't upset people with strange or unusual interpretations. It is good for some. Many people love her playing. I like her playing too. She is still young and I will have to wait with my final view about her playing. Do you like her playing so far? It is not easy to play standard reperoire well.

I thought that pianists played on whatever piano the concert hall owns. If the hall doesn't have a Fazioli, does she have to take her own with her? Isn't that a bit expensive?

Thank you t-i-n. I did not realized that she was as that old. I thought she was young (like in her twenties). Now I can really make up my mind about her.
From what little I know many pianists are signed by different piano makers to play on their pianos. Most pianist pianists are not signed up by the companies (only the famous ones, I suppose). I know pianists that play Yamaha pianos. They have to provide Yamaha for them. But there are not many of them. John O'Connnor here will only play on Steinway.
Angela Hewitt has a deal to play Fazili.
I am sure there are people who know more here and they can correct if I am wrong.

She's played for our society a couple of times recently. The society hires pianos rather than owning them, of course, but I've just looked through a dozen or so programmes and AH is not just the only pianist shown as playing a Fazioli but the only one who didn't use a Steinway. I can't remember what she was wearing last time she played for us and it wasn't her looks that impressed us. But she came across as a very charming person as well as a wonderfully talented musician. When signing CDs, for example, she had a cheery greeting for everyone in the queue and seemed happy to exchange a few sentences with anyone. Perhaps some artists learn this in PR school but it's by no means universal. I don't think it's easy to fake the kind of warm personality she presents to her public.
