Is it possible to leave obituaries where they are and also to start new ones in whichever is the most appropriate place, but to have some sort of obituary list in addition, with links? That way, anyone can find an obituary easily but the RIP threads will all remain in situ amongst the other threads just as and when they were posted. Sorry in advance if this is an impractical suggestion which would lead to far more work. And yes, I too, at first thought that the above title referred to obituaries of posters...

Merely corroborative detail, intended to give artistic verisimilitude to an otherwise bald and unconvincing narrative.

I too, at first thought that the above title referred to obituaries of posters... Sorry MJ, and to others that got that impression. That really wasn't intended but I can see how people could have arrived at that conclusion.

I only thought that for a second or two, Mort. Quite often you have to read the first post to fully comprehend its title.

In a word, no, MJ: people will only be able to find obits under Option 1 by doing their own searching. The only way we can have a comprehensive list (which would be in reverse chronological order, just like any other thread index) is by going for Option 3. And in case anyone still isn't sure what we're addressing, it's the obits of notable figures, which have been a feature of this board since its inception.
I appreciate what people are saying about leaving obits in their respective genre categories, but would point out that this may lead to occasions where there is a difficult decision to be made if a subject crosses boundaries.

I think I would tend to leave the obits where they naturally fall, for that is probably where they have the most relevant interest. If I particularly wanted to peruse obituaries systematically - say if I'd been away a few weeks and wanted to catch up - I would probably go to the obits section of one of the online newspapers, rather than here. But where there's one on a particular board here, I would read it if it fitted in with that area of interest.

Even allowing for those who said that they'd like to change their minds after voting, the majority were in favour of the proposal. The Obituary Pages are now a child board of the News and Current Affairs section, and all existing obits are gradually being moved there, although links remain from wherever they were originally posted, often unexpected places: I found quite a few interesting threads that I'd missed somehow. There's now one obvious site for posting memories and celebrations, though if you feel that you're happier starting one in another more specific area, we'll happily leave it there until it's gone quiet, then move it, leaving a link in exactly the same way as we have with those (surprisingly numerous) threads already archived.

I have no time to read everything written here.
I changed my mind too. I am in favour of obituary section.

Cripes, Ron, I arrived and saw 4 pages of unread posts! Thought I'd have my work cut out to catch up (not for the first time this month...)

I can't see Beryl Cook there, Ron. Are there still some waiting to be moved? http://r3ok.myforum365.com/index.php?topic=3029.0Thanks for all your hard work - I'd not seen many of those before.

Thanks for that, MJ: I'm sure there are still more to find, but that one's now in the new section.
