Hi Michael,

I've just discovered that the 'Remove' option - - has been...well, 'removed' from posts, save those in the Announcement section. Is this a software fault, or designed to stop people deleting their posts? If the latter, I can sort of understand why - the removal of posts can make some threads incomprehensible, but it is useful when, as George and I have just done, there's been an error and we just want to 'tidy up'. Grateful for any advice/ enlightenment.

IGI,

I recall Michael removed the 'remove' facility from members when opilec and Ian were encouraging M&S members to do so at r3ok. No doubt the facility will be returned at a later date.

If there is something rather embarrassing you want removed then I can do that for you  Wink

Hi IGI,

I did indeed remove this facility a little while ago.

Basically, I thought it a little unfair that members were able to remove their postings, leaving incompresible threads.

Regards,

Michael

As I have mentioned elsewhere, some sites find it more efficient not to allow the removal or even editing of posts as a measure to prevent the removal of evidence of libellous attacks.  I'm sure I'm not the only one who is grateful for the "modify/remove" options as I can type faster than I can think (except on this poor old PC), but recent events have caused me to wonder whether this board should adopt a similar policy.

Thanks, John and Michael, for the explanations. I do hope it's not a permanent change. One of the many things which made this site attractive from posting on the official R3 boards, apart from the 'you must wait 3 minutes....' frustration and the midnight curfew, was the feature to edit or delete posts. There are occasions when you might post something in haste and regret it later and the ability to self-moderate is a valuable one. I suppose we can still modify/edit a message and I wouldn't like to see this feature go the same way.

Hey guys,

The ability to edit should still be there.  Try, and if there are any problems I will try my best to rectify this.

Sorry Mort,

Just been back and modified my post.

I think you left your Spec Savers in the East, not the West wing.  Was it not that rather nice page boy, whom, wishing to impress, you whipped off your specs and hid them behind the fol-de-rols?

Mistress A.N. Theil,

I would ask you to kindly refrain from mentioning my fol-de-rols in such a puiblic place. I have now located my great grandfather`s monocle, which serves my purpose admirably.

Oops, off topic! Embarrassed

Perhaps we should mention, dear Mistress Morticia, Spec Savers offer 30% discount to the over Sixties?

Not that applies to thee or me, Nubile maidens that we are. never been subject to approaches by the opposite.  Why, I do believe they find us, somehow, frightening.  Why, I don't know.   Could be our height, or lack of it, in your case.

Funnily enough, I do believe I have a monocle in some Army Records which relate to a Sargeant who had a bicycle in Barnes.

Oh you posted  "in such a puiblic place"!

I retire confused as to whether you ment, well, like, pubes in the butter?

That's the probs with us lower classes, our speling is orful, innit?

Now, I don't actually recall opilec encouraging others to delete their posts, either here or at the M&S site.

I'd just like to make it quite clear that at no point in the last few weeks have I ever encouraged any other members of these boards -- either here before my rather melodramatic departure or at M&S -- to remove their posts. I didn't then, I don't now, and I won't in the future! It was a foolish action on my part, the result of genuine upset and anger, but foolish nonetheless. But I DID NOT encourage any other members to do so, either publicly or in private.

I just wanted that cleared up and on the record.

I apologise unreservedly to all members for any disruption my deletions have caused. At the time, I did at least give a little advance notice, but my actions -- like some others at that time -- were essentially in the heat of the moment. I've explained my reasons elsewhere, and have no intention of raking over all that again.

It was a curious experience to see my posts getting rather more attention when they weren't there than when they were, and I can assure you that I do not intend to repeat the exercise!

Best wishes,

Opi
