Now I'm fully aware that it's very bad form to reveal facts about other members on the board, but I hope everyone will forgive what I'm about to do here, since I wish to bring to your attention the brilliantly kind act of one of our contributors.

You may or may not be aware that I've been trying, in vain, to obtain a copy of Roberto Gerhard's Fourth Symphony on Chandos: it seems only to have had one pressing run, and although the sister discs with the other three are easily found, I've had no luck at all in my search for this rare item, although I've been trying web-wide and world-wide almost non-stop for over a year. It is available as a download, but I've been very loath to go down that particular route.

As I said, you may or may not be aware of this ongoing quest: time_is_now certainly was, bless him, and when he became aware of a copy very kindly snapped it up and sent it on to me: it arrived this morning, and I can still hardly believe that this quest is over. I hope you agree that this sort of thoughtful act, for which I shall be ever grateful, deserves wider acknowledgement.

Very many thanks, t_i_n, you're a star.

It set me to thinking that there are doubtless many others among us who are fruitlessly pursuing a particular recording, and would like to invite any involved in such a search to list the one disc they are most keenly seeking on this thread: the others of us who frequent secondhand emporia can thereby help in their search, and perhaps bring them the same eventual satisfaction!

Ron, I have no right to be jealous, having not been on the trail of this particular disc for as long as you have, but I AM jealous!

I will find one though, if it's the last thing I do.

Good idea for a thread, though. I've been looking for years for Paul Badura-Skoda's recording of the Wanderer Fantasy.

I hang my head in shame. I'd been looking for it for so long that somehow it hadn't clicked with me that it could be found in cyberspace.

I want Henry Threadgill's early work, everything prior to 1988's Easily Slip Into Another World.

This includes work with Air (F Hopkins & S McCall) as well as

# 1979: X-75 Volume 1
# 1982: When Was That?
# 1983: Just The Facts and Pass the Bucket
# 1984: Subject to Change
# 1987: You Know the Number

Not all at once, though. Must pace ourselves!

Well, I'm embarrassed by Ron's fulsome gratitude, but it is a good idea for a thread!

I had a list saved in my old phone of CDs I was desperate to acquire, but the phone got stolen and I always worry I might have forgotten something. The 2 CDs which I now own that took me longest to track down are Celibidache's Sibelius 5 and the old Nonesuch Carter Double Concerto. Now that I've finally got both of those, the only serious 'want' is Stefan Niculescu's 2nd Symphony on Olympia, though I do have a CD-R copy which someone burned for me.

I'd also like John Ogdon's EMI coupling of Dutilleux, Schmitt and Dukas for less than the 50 quid it seems to be going for on Amazon Marketplace.

Still Lisztening...

As I have mentioned before, I am constantly on the look out for Liszt's works for piano trio, on the Cala label (it was also released on another label as well but I caanot remember which one).  It also includes Chopin's Trio, Op.8.  The performers are Leslie Howard, William Howard and a violinist with the surname Fox.  It was (or probably still is) currently on Amazon Marketplace at about £60 - forget that!

Any help with this would be most appreciated.

Bit of googling reveals the violinist's name as Deborah Fox, and the label as Merlin. Haven't been able to track you down a copy yet, though...

I'm a member of the Centrale Discotheek Rotterdam (more than 300000 CDs), so if some of you are interested in certain recordings and you don't have problems with changes to the original CD booklets, please send me a private message and I'll see what I can do. Wink

I saw that some of the pieces that were mentioned above are available in Rotterdam, but I understand that this will not satisfy people who are really looking for the original discs.

Best wishes,

Pim

Well, for my part; after having finally managed to purloin copies of these out-of-print Lewenthals, I have been looking around (rather passively for the most part) for a copy of Duo Batendo's (Ton Huijsman and Sjaak van Vugt) 2-LP set of Castelnuovo-Tedesco's complete Well-Tempered Guitar (Etcetera ETC 2009); a 1-cd abridgement is available I think, but given that that's also rather hard to find I can't really bring myself to settle.

The catalogue number must begin KTC, not ETC - a very small point, I know, but it might help if you're searching by catalogue number.

Have you tried the distributor (Coda Distribution +44 1206 861332 or 793074, info@codadistribution.co.uk) to check if it's still available? Etcetera CDs are sometimes deleted, but more often they're just poorly distributed.

Turns out I could just get the cd from crotchet.  HAH.  Thanks though anyway; wouldn't have done it without your suggestion.

Is anyone in possession of and willing to part with a copy of the Marc-Andre Dalbavie disc containing Seuils and Diademes (series compositeurs d'aujourd'hui)?

It's not enough to burn me a copy, I need the original. I lost the disc that I borrowed from the library, and the item is now out of print.
