I think I'll be seeing Gergiev conduct the Vienna Philharmonic in London near the end of February. Prokofiev second piano concerto, Tchaikovsky sixth symphony. Yum.

I hope it turns out to be one of Gergiev's yum ones. You will, though, need to let me have an address to send the ticket to, Mr S.

I've had my eye on that, strina. I think I shall acquire a copy quite soon.

How does this compare to the Haitink recording? I bought all the Haitink versions about a decade ago, thinking they may not be the best all-around, but at least of a consistent level of quality. This was back when I was far more interested in composers than in interpreters.  Roll Eyes

I'm enjoying the Maxim S set and think that the Prague SO have retained something of the Eastern European sound, whereas Haitink's Concertgebouw  sounds just a little too smooth/ cultured, especially after you've heard Kondrashin. Peter Mikuláš is a fine soloist, as is Rintzler for Haitink. I rather like Anatoli Kotscherga, who is the bass soloist for Neeme Järvi on DG, where the biting sarcasm in his voice is great.
Has anyone heard Mark Wigglesworth's Babi Yar or the recording by the Beethoven Orchester, Bonn under Roman Hofman on MDG? I've read some good things about them.

"And now the moment you've all been waiting for....."

That (very short) track is one of my favourite tracks.
