Ollie, I really like that Neidich/ Weber disc. There is another, with Robert Levin, of the Grand Duo Concertant, as well as the Danzi and Mendelssohn sonatas. Do you know it? I played the slow movement of the Mendelssohn for Grade V some years ago, and enjoy the charm he brings to the piece.

Ho Barebodkin.  That's understandable.  What's it going to be like by Friday with a choral version of the 1812?   Aaarrrgh!

Pretty dire I should think, but it is the BBC and Radio 3, so what can we hope for?

Roger Woodward / Barraque's piano sonata.

This is inspired playing, and probably my favourite version of this piece.

Next up - Scelsi, I Presagi.

Enjoyement these last few days has been provided by the following:

Brian Ferneyhough's Terrain, Missa Brevis and the first version of Funerailles.
Claus Mahnkopf - Memor sum (for viola), and Pegasus (for oboe and ensemble).
Heinz Holliger's String quartet - Did the world just end? One listen and its already one of my favourite string quartets.
'Auro' by Bruno Maderna.
James Erber - Strange Moments of Intimacy, played by Kate Romano. Apart from another solo work of his there aren't any other recordings of his music. That has to be put right.

On the jazz/improv/composition/godknowswhat trip its George Lewis 'Sequel' that has really knocked me sideways.

Some interesting things there, xyzzzz__. I haven't heard anything by either James Erber or George Lewis - do you have any recommendations?

I have fired up the turntable and am currently working my way through some of my favourite records in this boxset - Le Courlis Cendre is currently spinning;
