Well, I'm not going to ask anything about the playing (that's other people's business), but I'd love to know what you think of Prime Site, which for me is the most strikingly original (and also a little disturbing) piece on the disc?
I have to say, having listened to it twice tonight, that I just don't get it.
I think I need to leave it tomorrow and try again on Sunday before I answer you on this.

New CD by BARK!

(What/who is that?  My quick google search didn't find an obvious link, unless Bark! is also "Bark! The Musical," which I'm rather doubting.   Wink)

Johann Sebastian?

Now spinning at martle towers: William Schuman 3rd symphony, recently recommended by Ron (thanks again, Ron) and received this morning. I had heard it before, years ago, but obviously wasn't ready for it then. What a remarkably fine piece it is: very concentrated, intense and powerful symphonic writing. It certainly sounds a tad in harmonic thrall to the Harris 3rd (which predates it by three years); but the Harris is a one-off model of economy and concision. Schuman's has the breadth and scope of an American Sibelius. Looking forward to the 8th (also on this disc).

I wonder what our American pals think of these somewhat-forgotten mid-20th-century US symphonists. It seems they get fewer outings there these days than their British equivalents do here (RVW, Walton, Tippett, Simpson even...).

Pre-dinner tunes: Kagels' "Sextuor a cordes" followed by Nono's "Incontri". Might follow that with Stockhausen's "Zeitmasse"...
