It's not the same, I know, but I never need much of an excuse to wheel out again Philip Larkin's phrase when declining an invitation: "I am sorry not to be less disappointing."

Just put on the Singcirlce CD of KS's "Stimmung". Sorry, but every time I hear the work, I am immediately put in mind of John White's "Jew's Harp Machine".

How so, Bryn ?

Well I guess its the the exploration of the resonant buccal cavity they both exhibit, autoharp. There are certain rhythmic similarities in places, too. Wink

Also, autoharp, think if the (IIRC) "ging, gang. gung, gong, hurrhh" (or however John notated it), and the vowel sounds cycling in "Stimmung". All very superficial, but the association if now firmly established in my mind's ear.

Spinning in E-space: Rosenthal playing Chopin (currently Valse No. 7) - a fine recommendation from comrade Pace, thanks Ian!

"featuring leading violinists Gidon Kremer and acclaimed viola players Yuri Bashmet."

2 cases of dual personalities?  "Gid and Kremer" and "Yur e Bashmet" perhaps.

Music-making, dear boy. Music-making. You did click on the "(more)", after "Goldsmiths College London. The organ ...", didn't you? Wink

Stephen Kovacevich playing Beethoven Bagatelles on disc 6 of a Phillips set of lots of LvB: concerti, sonatas, diabellis, etc.  I quite like the recordings, don't get me wrong, but one of the most impressive things about this set is how they managed to get six discs into a standard double-size jewel case.

The Bagatelles, by the way, would be an excellent contribution to the "Emergency Music" thread.  How can such kooky little squibs not make you smile?  Miserable wretch.

Well done Bryn.  That was some gap in your collection.

Orchestral Wagner   LPO/Tennstedt.

Live at Suntory Hall, Tokyo.  18 October 1988.

New DvD.   So pleased this recording was made.  Sensational.

Alison - what are the works on this? I have the LPO Live selection which is probably my favourite Tennstedt disc and one of my favourite Wagner chunks discs. How do the two compare?
