Query - was that a self-edit, or censorship? (Just curious!!!)

« Last Edit: Today at 11:57:10 by John W »

means I censored it.

To be fair Rcartes did use ****  or something but I thought it was offensive and we've exchanged polite messages about it  Smiley

///////<<<<<<Actually quite the opposite. I think that Sarah Walker has the most wonderfully sexy voice I've heard on the radio, so I just like listening to her speaking irrespective of what is being said. NOW - if you had put the name Sean Rafferty in instead I would have agreed with you. Raffababble as I call him drove me to distraction years ago to the extent that I literally cannot listen to "In Tune", and have to make do with Radio 4 whilst preparing the dinner!

Anyone who's becoming irritated by a Radio 3 presenter should visit ClassicFM for Late Night Lisa.... I can guarantee you'll return gratefully to Radio 3; she is unbelievably awful.

I hope this isn't regarded as too offensive. Undecided

Well I suppose Doctor Walker might be quite amused to find herself considered to be a teenager, but the other aspect of the title of this thread is just too pathetic a comment to be worth dealing with.

Really? Can't say it's ever struck me that way. Still, she does score over SW in one respect. She appreciates Feldman's muse. One of Sarah Walker's weak spots is Morty, I am given to understand. Not really her cup of tea.

How I agree Mabeljane. She is the typical 'young know it all' smarmy voice presenter.....

I agree with Bryn, Dracom (and lovedaydewfall).  Nice voice & personality and she knows what she is talking about musically.

I think it is sad that we have such offensive (and off-the-mark) posts as No. 1.

I totally agree.  She has a most peculiar voice hasn't she?  A really odd timbre to it and an awful sing-song approach.  All this delivered very quickly and with the impression that it's done with a forced smile throughout.  Quite bizarre really.

I like Sean Rafferty.   Sorry but there it is.  Sarah Walker is far better than anyone on Classic FM.

Its a style: substance question isnt it? There was a time when you could have both,  but presentation seems to have formed its own middlebrow tabloid convention. There are voices with a personality that subvert this, viz Doc
Walker. By the by, I have found myself listening to WGBH lately, which I think may be the model for 'sequence'
broadcasting which 3 is pursuing. The best of it is quite good- what they do is put their discussion progs online-
and most of the live music is, yes, pre-recorded. Mucho mainstream classics but the odd rarity intelligently introduced.

It's the strange pauses between words which should flow together, eg the name of an orchestra, the inappropriate stresses on unimportant words and, most of all, the artificial cosiness of it all, playing music she knows you want to hear (NO I DON'T!) which irritate me so much I have to shout at her. And what's really sickening is her telling you she's keeping you company at night, in that simpering voice of hers...Does this appeal to the male listeners I wonder? Who finds her irresistable...Huh

I like Sean too. He seems to speak knowledgably and honestly. OK, at times he may appear to be a little sychophantic towards his guests, a complaint I read about him recently, but he's not going to say he doesn't like their performance is he? I rarely switch him off - he's good for cooking to!

I did get annoyed though with Sara M-P a while ago as I drove to work, as she had to give her long-winded opinion of every recording she played that morning - I really didn't want to know what she thought of them all!

And there may be a thread somewhere about R3 Requests, I haven't been able to check yet, but I'm sorry to say I really don't like Chi-chi Nwanoku's voice as a presenter. Perhaps you need to become accustomed to it...but I don't think I will as I doubt I'll be tuning into that programme much.
