Correct (Archduke)!
Here's a much harder one:
Symptom of drunkenness on monarch carrying an emblem of freedom makes for absolutist (8 ).

Seeing as nobody's had a stab at this I'll guess 'Hickling'.
But it's a wild guess and would be in part based on there being an absolutist of that name, that google doesn't know about. Either that or a verb 'to hickle', which would be nice if there was.

Hickling would be 'Hic' followed by 'king' holding an 'l'.
So it gets my vote!

Didn't notice this before - both you and Daniel are in the right sort of direction, but it's the wrong answer.

Hmmm - still no luck on Ian's or MT Wessel's.
But here's some fresh ones to get you going. All Composer Surnames, and I'll leave out the letters for fun.
1. A letter away from making a shepherd happy at bedtime 2. use another's noise 3. Landlord gets a boxing win amidst messy chives (not eastern) 4. About.... About that Gammon.... About.... left? 5. Skilled labourer, metalworker, changes a compass point 6. Cooker for edible roots - hard inside

All right so far.... 1. 2. Borodin (Borrow din) 3. Shostakovich (Host a k.o. in an anagram of chivs) 4. Mahler ("re: Ham" about the letter l, turned about.) 5. 6.

At every one of these [classical] concerts in England you will find rows of weary people who are there, not because they really like classical music, but because they think they ought to like it. (Shaw, Don Juan in Hell)
