Yes! The clue can be found in the DREAM's play-within-the-play when Thisby arrives and finds Pyramus dead.

'Speak, speak, quite dumb'?

I thought it might be to do with spoken roles - Puck and Samiel - as opposed to silent roles - Duke Gottfried in Lohengrin - but can't quite figure out the Debussy...

'Asleep my love? What, dead, my dove?'

Sleep and spells?

Not sleep, but you've quoted the thing we're looking for!

Doves?

Debussy – Pelléas et Mélisande - Doves go out of the tower and fly around them in the night
Wagner – Lohengrin - Lohengrin disappears, led by the dove of the Grail
Britten – A Midsummer Night’s Dream - Demetrius: Who would not change a raven for a dove?
Weber – Der Freischütz - Max fires at a white dove, which is suddenly revealed as Agathe

So MND is the odd one out, in that doves are quoted, but do not appear!

Other than Jonathan Dove's opera Flight and Dove sono (Grin) from Le Nozze, nothing immediately springs to mind.

Whilst thinking, here’s another one where the connection is a mystery composer.

Gounod
Liszt
Vaughan Williams
Berlioz

Lohengrin's father?  Wink

I hope the Gounod is an opera!

Of course! 'From the dome a white dove descends and hovers over Parsifal's head. Kundry slowly sinks lifeless to the ground in front of Parsifal'.
Non-operatic doves include Schoenberg’s in Gurrelieder and Dvorak’s Wood Dove.

The Gounod is not operatic, no.
