Morning, IGI! I know my first stab (maritime plots) is wrong, but I'm looking for an inquisitorial clue  Embarrassed

Morning, Parsifal!

Clues? From the Inquisition? Oh, go on then... the Britten is sea-related, but it's not Billy Budd! The Sullivan piece is not linked to W.S.Gilbert. And here's a fifth composer:

Sullivan
Britten
Holst
Shostakovich
Dvorak

The Britten just has to be Peter Grimes - yes?

I was thinking of Sullivan - The Golden Legend, Shostakovich - The Golden Age, Britten - The Golden Vanity. Or Sullivan - Merchant of Venice, Britten - Death in Venice.

Not Venice, but follow up the 'golden' connection, Tony!

Fantastic, Tony - spot on! (And no need for the Golden Cockerel as a final clue).

We're looking for characters (both male and female) that share one connection (an object). Here are three more composers:

Berlioz
Gershwin
Gounod

Hello, IGI!

Walton is correct.

The Bizet opera is correct, but it isn't the title role we're looking for (a minor female character).

The PORGY character is also female, but (again) not a title role!

The Puccini is a major mezzo role.

The Verdi is a comedy (a male role).

The Berlioz is more famous than CELLINI (a minor male character), and the Gounod less famous than FAUST (but a repertory opera, and the character is a male title role)!
