The Bizet is a friend of Carmen.
The Verdi opera is correct: the character is a baritone but not Falstaff.
The Gershwin starts with an S.

So let's try:

Bizet - Frasquita
Verdi - Ford
Gershwin - Serena
Puccini - Suzuki

Correct, except for the Bizet: if you get it, you'll immediately discover the connection!

At every one of these [classical] concerts in England you will find rows of weary people who are there, not because they really like classical music, but because they think they ought to like it. (Shaw, Don Juan in Hell)

Yes! Do you know the Berlioz and Gounod?

(Toyota) Cressida
Mercedes
(Nissan) Serena
Ford

Clue to the car suggested by Gounod = Shakespeare + (by a phonetic trick) Berg
Clue to Berlioz = Holst's PLANETS

Bizet - Mercedes
Verdi - Ford
Puccini – Suzuki
Walton – Cressida
Gershwin – Serena
Gounod - Romeo
Berlioz - Mercury?

I think we're after cars/ makes of vehicles aren't we? (Sorry, a bit slow - non-driver here!) There's me thinking of objects in the operas - knives, scarves, money!

Neither correct, although the Sousa is close! I should have added that you're not looking for a common word link, but a connection between the four pieces.

Neither, I'm afraid. I might offer a pair of alternatives to Sousa and Ketèlbey later... Wink

I like your thinking - it's along the right sort of lines - but, no.  Smiley
