Very good indeed, Parsifal! We were at West End musicals...

Elgar – The Starlight Express
Honegger - Les Misérables
Sousa - The Belle Of Chicago or Kálmán - Die Herzogin von Chicago
Ketčlbey - The Phantom Melody or Corigliano -  Phantasmagoria, suite from the Ghosts of Versailles (The Phantom of the Opera)

Thanks, IGI, for a brilliant puzzle!

I've always wanted to hear Corigliano's opera (the Met video is sadly out of print): do you know it?

No - I don't think it's made it to DVD yet, although I wouldn't be surprised if DG issued it, as I thought the opera was well received. I do have the orchestral suite Phantasmagoria and it contains some very good music, some of it pastiche, but cleverly done.

The Corigliano is well worth looking out:

A new connection to solve - a common word to each title:

Debussy
Holst
Tchaikovsky
Ligeti

Hi Parsifal!

Nocturnes will give you a big clue to the Debussy, but nocturnes itself are not the connection.

(Finished Götterdämmerung btw; comments on Opera House thread....)

No homages here. The Tchaikovsky is a choral song.

Not moonlight either. There is a nocturnal connection to the Debussy (a big one) but not linking the four compositions. The Holst is choral.

Here's a fifth composer:

Debussy
Holst
Tchaikovsky
Ligeti
Liszt

No. Perhaps the Debussy nocturnal connection should have a capital N!
