Hi,

I've been away from this thread for too long, my brain needs exercise. I'm thinking fairies here. Several Rimsky-Korzakov works are based on fairy tales, and I've just seen that one is actually titled that, so

Rimsky-Korsakov - Fairy tale
Suk - Raduz and Mahulena : A Fairy Tale Suite for orchestra
Szymanowski - Songs of a Fairy Tale Princess
Korngold - 7 fairy tale pictures

Hi John, and welcome back!

Absolutely right about the fairy-tale link:

Suk – Pohádka (Fairy Tale - based on the incidental music to Raduz and Mahulena)
Rimsky-Korsakov – Skazka (Fairy Tale)
Szymanowski – Songs of a Fairy-Tale Princess
Korngold - Sieben Märchenbilder Seven Fairy-Tale Pictures, Op.3

The Rimsky is a charming little tone poem and features on an ASV disc conducted by Loris Tjeknavorian:

Hello, rm. Not dawn, no. They're all reasonably well-known pieces, to which I'll add a fifth:

Fauré
Tchaikovsky
Puccini
Nielsen
Rautavaara

Quite a few Rautavaarian angels - Angels and Visitations, Angel of Light, Angel of Dusk (a double bass concerto, no less) - but not an angelic connection, I'm afraid, Tommo. (Where did your violin avatar disappear to?!)

Let's see if Felix can help:

Fauré
Tchaikovsky
Puccini
Nielsen
Rautavaara
Mendelssohn

There is also a connection to a recent thread...  Wink

Not a geographical link, rm. The Puccini requires a bit of digging and the Tchaikovsky link is within a subtitle (but quite a famous one).

Mendelssohn's A Midsummer Night Dream
