Were these guesses, P?! The I-I is from an entertaining little suite titled Turkish Fragments.

Bantock - Omar Khayyam, for soloists, chorus & orchestra Camel Caravan
Ippolitov-Ivanov - Turkish Fragments, Op.62: No.1 The Caravan
Ellington – Caravan
Koechlin – The Persian Hours – The Caravan

So, just Quartet 2 to solve in this sand-in-your-shoes puzzle:

Ives
Foulds
Fauré
Coates

Hello, IGI! I'm afraid I HAD to guess the I-I! The only desert connection I can think of now regarding Q 2 is Coates's 'I Pitch My Lonely Caravan', but I'm sure it isn't what you're looking for, so more hunting!

This is my favourite recording of the Turkish Fragments. Tjeknavorian and the Armenian Phil are irrestible in this sort of stuff!

Yes, caravans are exhausted now and we need a place to rest. I think I can spot one on the horizon...  Wink

Would the Coates be By the sleepy lagoon, by any chance?

At every one of these [classical] concerts in England you will find rows of weary people who are there, not because they really like classical music, but because they think they ought to like it. (Shaw, Don Juan in Hell)

No lagoons in sight. And a no to the Ives.

The Ives is a song, the Fauré a song cycle, in which a watery reflection may appear... Wink
