Apparently those two huge crossing swords that used to adorno Baghdad were made in Basingstoke

Er, Ian, are you sure about this? Or is it a forgiveable typo after too many hours connecting?  Wink

It's a fair cop! That's what the culture industry does to you...... Wink

Used to? They took them down then? I'd been wondering about that for a while...

As the new composer isn't Quantz I'm sticking to my previous answer. Wink

La princesse lointaine?

I note that both Gounod and Tcherepnin wrote Sapphic works too... (but I know we've identified the Gounod - not quite sure why tho'!)

La princesse lointaine?

No deal. Nothing sapphic either.

Ballet could provide you with the odd clue and as for Suppé, well you could spend all day looking for that one!  Wink

I've added an extra composer as generosity is such a feature if the Inquisition!

Elgar – Imperial March
Walton
Rameau
Schubert – Marche militaire
Berlioz - Royal Hunt and Storm ‘The Trojans’
Telemann
Suppé
Bliss
Gounod – La reine de Saba
Francaix
Handel
Vaughan Williams
Tcherepnin
Quilter
Bach

Correct! You've earned an American minimalist composer!

Rameau
Schubert – Marche militaire
Berlioz - Royal Hunt and Storm ‘The Trojans’
Telemann
Suppé - Morning, Noon and Night in Vienna
Bliss
Gounod – La reine de Saba
Francaix
Handel
Vaughan Williams
Tcherepnin
Quilter
Bach

Working off a wild guess, and with incomplete reasoning...

Is Bliss The Tempest, and Riley A Rainbow in Curved Air?

No to both, Tim, I'm afraid. Clue: The Bliss and Tcherepnin are both ballets.
