Sallinen's the 6th...for a modern alternative, you could have Tchaikovsky!

Yes, Baz!! (The modern alternative is sugar, so The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy was lying in wait!)

A case of to Ollie, George and Baz for solving that one!

Johann Strauss II – Morning Papers
Sousa – King Cotton
Sallinen – Iron Age Suite
Gličre – The Bronze Horseman
Verdi - Willow Song from Otello
Butler – Tin-Pan Ballet
Prokofiev - Le Pas d'Acier 'The Steel Step'
Ives – Her gown was of vermilion silk
Dowland Goe crystall teares
Johann Strauss II – Das Spitzentuch der Königin (The Queen's Lace Handkerchief)
Adams - Nixon in China
Dvorak - O Silver Moon from 'Rusalka'
Bizet – The Pearl Fishers
Takemitsu – Coral Island
Sullivan – The Sapphire Necklace
Shostakovich – The Age of Gold
Hoddinott The Rajah’s Diamond

That was a stonker, IGI! And what a virtuoso display by Ollie, George and Baz!

By the way, do you think one can say one has 'made it' as a composer if one has featured in New Musical Connections?  Tongue Tongue Cool

Ah, that's a relief, Sir Arthur. I was worried you might have been Alun Hoddinott.  Roll Eyes

I once went to a pre-concert talk given by Joe Duddell - and I was the only person there! So we sat down together and had a nice chat about music. I actually did more of the talking so I said "You're supposed to be giving the talk not me!" Grin

A few other people did turn up later.

That's a bit sad Andy but I'm glad it was resolved amicably.
