Joe Duddell - Ruby

Was on the Prom of 25/7/03

I'll get me anorak.

I remember that, Andy. Wasn't it the Bournemouth SO's prom that year?

Interesting. I had my info from a BBC site. Seeing that sugar was the traditional British 6th, I could have had the Tchaikovsky anyway!

Correct IGI, I'm just playing my recording which, as it happens, I've recently uploaded to my hard drive from the minidisc it used to be on. BSO conducted by Marin Alsop with Colin Currie on percussion.

You could have Malcolm Arnold's A Grand, Grand Festival Overture, which features parts for principal vacuum cleaner, sub principal vacuum cleaner, section vacuum cleaner and principal floor polisher!   Cheesy

Well I was going to post that IGI but I thought we had to connect a metal/jewel with it?

Otherwise I would have said March Past of the Kitchen Utensils by RVW!!

No, just anniversary gifts, hence paper, cotton, willow, lace etc.

Listened to any good Rachmaninov lately? Did you get the BBC Francesca?

Mark, then I could have Ewazen's Roaring Fork or even Mack the Knife?  Both appliances needed to eat  Cheesy

Yes, I recorded the Francesca on BBC.  That reminds me, haven't played the Jarvi for a while ....

I haven't bought any new Rach, have you?

The Grand, Grand Overture is certainly the one I was thinking of...

Is a fork necessarily an appliance? I wonder. I wouldn't have said so but what would I know? Wiki suggests electrical or some other kind of energy input is required for something to graduate to appliance status.

Chalumeau is French not only for the instrument but also for a kitchen or plumbing blowtorch. (So far I've not known that to cause any confusion in rehearsal.) If gas power counts I suppose that could be an appliance...  Roll Eyes

Apart from the Noseda Francesca (very good, if not quite as strongly cast as Järvi’s), I finally managed to get the Jurowski Symphonic Dances/ The Isle of the Dead, which I greatly enjoyed, as well as a disc of The Bells + Symphonic Dances on a disc conducted by Semyon Bychkov, who impressed me with his Rach at the Proms last summer.  Smiley

I so love the Jurowski, I still have yet to get any copy of The Bells, will have to have another look, but I did vow not to buy any more cds for the moment.

What is an Appliance?  Something that helps you do something?  Like a Zimmerframe or a hearing aid?  And then, of course, there are those mysterious "Surgical Appliances"  Huh

Quote
"In the United Kingdom and Commonwealth countries, one can receive a message from Queen Elizabeth II for the 60th, 65th, and 70th wedding anniversaries, and any wedding anniversary after the 70th. This is done by applying to Buckingham Palace..."

Rather a funny idea of the concept of "present" don't you think?  Sad
