Not really, no, auto. Although in a funny sort of way...

But No would be the fairer answer.

Good evening,

No idea of the connection, but I feel like a wild stab in the dark!  Shocked

Malcolm Williamson - Our Man in Havana
Handel - Giulio Cesare in Egitto
Constant Lambert - The Rio Grande
Vittorio Rieti - Indiana
Wagner - Rienzi, the Last of the Tribunes

Is it a single word connection, George or thematic?

One palpable hit from your stabs, IGI.

Malcolm Williamson -
Handel -
Constant Lambert - The Rio Grande
Vittorio Rieti -
Wagner -

We're looking for a series of words taken from the title of each piece which together make up a phrase.

Well considering that most Wagner titles are character-based, how about Das Liebesverbot (The Ban on Love)?

Williamson wrote a children's opera, The Happy Prince.
Handel - let's try The Music for the Royal Fireworks

Correct for the Williamson!

But not for the Wagner or Handel.

Is the Handel Alexander's Feast and the Wagner Die Meistersinger?

I'm thinking of Prince Alexander, Grand something of Nuremberg.

Is the Handel one of his odes?

Perhaps the Wagner isn't operatic?

Die Meistersinger is the correct Wagner opera, Tony, but not Alexander's Feast, I'm afraid.

Yes, IGI, the Handel is indeed one of the Odes.

Malcolm Williamson - The Happy Prince
Handel - Ode.....
Constant Lambert - The Rio Grande
Vittorio Rieti -
Wagner -  Die Meister Singer

Is the Rieti a ballet? Verdiana? He's quite tricky to track down and seems to have left many works at the 'sketches' stage!

The Rieti is a ballet, yes, but not Verdiana.

Correct, IGI, you're there. Grin Grin

And half an hour quicker than I had calculated.

Malcolm Williamson - The Happy Prince
Handel - Ode for the Birthday of Queen Anne
Constant Lambert - The Rio Grande
Vittorio Rieti - Conundrum
Wagner -  Die Meister Singer

Many thanks, George! A pre-birthday visit to Covent Garden for a Netrebko-less Traviata today was preceded by a fine lunch at Bertorelli's!

It was the Lambert Grande which got me suspicious!
