Been a bit busy this weekend, so have neglected this one somewhat. Let's have a wild stab at a few pieces to see if Tommo's hiding behind the arras...

Tallis – Spem in alium
Fauré – Souvénirs de Bayreuth
Nielsen – Symphony No. 2, ‘The Four Temperamtents’
Leo Sowerby - The Throne of God
Robin Walker - His Master's Voice
Schubert – Die Forelle
Jonathan Harvey - Lotuses

I'm grumpy 'cos no one is trying my New Musical Connections Quiz.  Where is IGI anyway?

Grumpo

OK tommo, I will have a stab at your musical connections.

The answer is seven.

The odd one out is Faure's Hommage.

No, but thank you.

Now hang on a darn cotton pickin' moment - where did IGI's post come from?  When I selected "See unread replies", the NMC thread did not come up, but when I went to the coffee bar to come to NMC, it had a blue 'new' next to it.  That's not supposed to happen, surely?

Anyway, IGI, you have exactly no hits (so at least  didn't get stabbed.)  Please have another go.

Happens to me too Tommo, note IGI posted within seconds of your previous post and it went onto the next page which you presumably didn't see but you might have refreshed... oh I dunno  Undecided

Okay, here are some wrong guesses:

Tallis - If Ye Love Me

Faure - La Naissance de Venus

Neilsen - Cantata for the Inauguration of the Radium Station

Leo Sowerby

Robin Walker

Schubert - Eifersucht und Stolz (Jealousy and pride) from Die Schone Mullerin

Jonathan Harvey - Dum Transisset Sabbatum

Sorry, no hits there.  Faure and Schubert are way more popular than the two you noted.  Oh, and Schubert would not have known his work by this title....

Schubert - Unfinished Symphony?

Faure and Schubert are way more popular than the two you noted.

(My previous guess for the Schubert was based on a thought that it might be a seven deadly sins connection, and the Faure as having a connection to the days of the week, but I think now that this was just the sound of barks ascending mis-identified trees. Sad)

Ladies and Gentlemen, we have our first hit!

Tallis
Faure
Neilsen
Leo Sowerby
Robin Walker
Schubert                   - Unfinished Symphony
Jonathan Harvey

I liked your seven deadly sins slant, Dan - indeed that was a puzzle I was trying to construct some months ago and gave up on.......  Sorry it's not that.

Nielsen  -  Symphony No 4 'Inextinguishable'?

Sowerby  -  Sinfonia Brevis?

So it's, er, the Seven Dwarves: Shorty, Incompletey, Unstoppable, ... and Doc.

Sorry George, no hits there.  And not dwarves.

Another clue?  There are 4 works that involve singers and 3 that do not.

Another little pop at this: (pop)

The Tallis and Faure are both unfinished, I think, though I don't see how that would connect with the number seven. The rest are just a rather random selection of names ...

*slinks away*

Tallis - Christmas mass

Faure - Violin Concerto

Nielsen - Simple Symphony

Leo Sowerby - The Canticle of the Sun

Robin Walker - At the Grave of William Baines

Schubert - Unfinished Symphony

Jonathan Harvey - One Evening...

No extra hits there, Daniel, but you are close with the Leo Sowerby.  It's one of his other cantata's you are looking for.

Another clue for you all.  The Schubert is clearly without voice.  The other two works that are without voice are by Nielsen and Robin Walker.

Ok, continuing to flail helplessly in the post-Boris Johnson darkness, I offer these:

Tallis - The Lamentations of Jeremiah

Faure - Cantique de Jean Racine

Neilsen - Helios Overture

Leo Sowerby - Forsaken of Man

Robin Walker - I Thirst

Schubert - Unfinished Symphony

Jonathan Harvey - Wheel of Emptiness
