Mmmm..has it got anything to do with the visual arts? Cage produced a series of drawings and watercolours for Crown Point Press, and I seem to recall that Mendelssohn painted on his trips to Scotland. Back to my puzzler, I'll add an extra composer and reveal that there are symphonies, ballets and songs amongst the pieces here: Britten Verdi Sibelius Beethoven Stravinsky Rachmaninov Raff Grieg

Sorry IGI, not the visual arts. A bit more cerebral than that.... And sorry too for barging in with such a puzzle. I though you all would have got it by now - it was only meant to be a stop gap whilst pondering your (now extensive) composer list. But at least it gves you something to do whilst we're busy not getting your's! Now where s that list of Raff's works..... Tommo

Not cavatinas, no. It's one of those that you'll kick yourself over...not cerebral at all, I'm afraid! Raff's quite a recent discovery for me....through the R3 MBs, of course...not that such a discussion could flourish there now, sad to observe.

...and quite a few Leonoras appearing in Verdi operas, but no.
Is yours something to do with musical family members? Fischer's brother, Adam, is a conductor; Felix's sister, Fanny Mendelssohn...
One interesting thing I found out about John Cage was that he collected mushrooms....!

What... 'piece'? I know you said only one of the links was the title of a musical work, so let's try: Cage - Theater Piece No. 1

Not quite that type of piece.
I'll give you another person later, but the only one I can find makes it too easy....
