I hope Seasons is right, because it's about time for your move, IGI......

I hope so too. I thought the the link was Autumn, then Spring, but exasperated I've gone for 'seasons'.

I'm waiting to launch 'Sounds Familiar 5'

Just a flying visit to let you know that John's nearly correct...it is seasonal, but more accurately one season in particular.... Wink

I'll check in later this evening.

Yes, I think you're all just about there - Spring was indeed the connection:

Britten – Spring Symphony
Verdi – Spring from The Four Seasons (ballet in ‘I Vespri Siciliani)
Sibelius - Spring is flying ‘Vĺren flyktar hastigt’
Beethoven – Sonata for violin & piano No.5 ‘Spring’
Stravinsky – Rite of Spring
Rachmaninov - Spring waters
Raff – Symphony No.8, ‘Sounds of Spring’
Grieg – Last Spring
Bridge - Enter Spring
Delius – On Hearing the First Cuckoo in Spring

It was a bit of a giveaway, wasn't it? I'd never have spotted the connection without it however:

They all played chess, plus John Cage wrote 'Chess Pieces'. François-André Danican Philidor was a French chess player and composer, regarded as the best single chess player of his age. Mendelssohn apparently played the game in Paris 1831-2. I did know that Prokofiev played. Ivan Fischer? I can't find any info on him...his website under construction at the moment (although he shares a surname with one of the greatest grandmasters of all time... Wink)

Well done, IGI!

I couldn't really string that one out any longer.

Search for Ivan Fisher and Chess in google should being up an interview where he says it is what he does when not conducting.

Cheers

I suggest the theme is young people:

Bartók - 'For Children' BB53
Britten - Young Person's Guide tothe Orch.
Rachmaninov  - 'To the children' (song)
Tippett - Child of Our Time
Korngold - Wunderkind
