Flute & Harp?

Donizetti – Lucia di Lammermoor – flute/harp in Lucia’s ‘mad scene’ though Donizetti originally wrote it as a part for glass harmonica
Debussy  - Sonata for flute, viola and harp (also a combination Bax wrote for)
Bax – Sonata for Flute & Harp
Haydn - Huh

Grin Why do I give clues? Well I usually do when it's an instrumental link  Roll Eyes

Yes, the full link is 'Sonata for flute and harp' or an instrumental group that inlcudes flute and harp

Jo Haydn wrote a 'Sonata for flute, harp and double bass', though I can't find a recording by googling; the piece is mentioned in Scholes.

Donizetti: Sonata for flute and harp, Debussy: Sonata for flute, viola and harp, Bax: Sonata for flute and harp.

I'm thinking 'Ball Games':

Satie - 'Le tennis' in Sports et divertissements
Debussy - Jeux (tennis)
Ives - lots of American football pieces, e.g. Yale-Princeton football game, and Calcium Light Night (IIRC)
Martinu - Football (symph poem) - haven't Czeched to see if this is Rugby or Assoc...
Honegger - Rugby

Or do I need to hunt further in Satie & Debussy for 'odd-shaped ball' pieces?  Or in the last three for more tennis (anyone for)?? Wink

Goal!

Well done, FisherMartinJ! I was thinking of Martinu's 'Half-Time', but yours was even better!

Are we all at sea for this one, John?

Haydn - Sailor's Song or The Mermaid’s Song
Schumann - Rose, Meer, und Sonne
Borodin – The Sea
Granados – The Enchanted Palace in the Sea .

Also a non-musical connection - Granados died at sea when HMS Sussex was torpedoed in 1916.

IGI,

We ARE all at sea, but you'll have to be more specific about the titles of the works, and in the end we have different words for (possibly) the same thing.

One of your selection is correct.

OK, time for something a bit different…back to the acrostics! Here are seven composers. Take the first letter of a work by each and rearrange them to make another composition by one of them.

Brahms
Handel
Massenet
Mozart
Sibelius
Verdi
Wagner

A very speedy and ingenious solution, roslynmuse...but not the composition I had in mind, but the Massenet is operatic (as are all the others save Brahms and Sibelius).  Wink

Brahms
Handel
Massenet
Mozart
Sibelius
Verdi
Wagner

A reminder...you're looking for seven works, the first letter of each will reveal an eighth work by one of the commposers.  Wink
