Well done - the correct 'hidden' piece, John,  Cheesy but the compositions were, mostly, slightly more mainstream:

Thaïs - Massenet
Ariodante - Handel
Pan and Echo - Sibelius
Idomeneo - Mozart
Oberto - Verdi
Lohengrin – Wagner
Academic Festival Overture - Brahms

A more conventional quartet to connect:

Debussy
Elgar
Warlock
Henze

I'm not usually in on this quiz (except as a viewer) but I managed to do one over at For3, and now I think I've cracked this:

Debussy: Dialogue du vent et de la mer
Elgar: O Wild West Wind
Warlock: The Wind from the West
Henze: Ode an der Westwind

Blow me down! Is that it?

Well spotted, Martin!

The Debussy's been on my mind recently (as you may know from the quiz elsewhere  Wink) and I was intrigued that there were so many pieces which linked in with it. There'a also a MacDowell song 'The West Wind Croons in the Cedar Trees'.

A new acrostic to solve - seven works by seven composers, the first letter of each will lead to an eighth work by one of the composers (only one opera in the list this time!  Wink)

Donizetti
Dvorak
Janacek
Mendelssohn
Poulenc
Ravel
Tchaikovsky

Using that clue I thought Janacek for opera, and looked for a non-opera piece by Donizetti and took it from there:

Makropoulos Affair - Janacek
Il Sospiro - Donizetti
Rapsodie Espangol - Ravel
Octet for Strings - Mendelssohn
In Nature's Realm - Dvorak
Romeo and Juliet Overture - Tchaikovsky
Suite Francaise - Poulenc

MIROIRS - Ravel

A brilliant connection, John...but not the right one, sadly!  Undecided

The opera is Donizetti's...there are a couple of symphonies lurking too.  Wink

Well, for the symphonies I've avoided Dvorak's 9th as I don't know if you would refer to it as From The New World or New World. I'm sure you would have gone for the former, more correct, but anyway I went for Manfred and Scottish, and looked for a seven word with M and S which brought up some very unlikely things but here goes:

Tzigane - Dvorak
Elegie - Poulenc
Manfred - Tchaikovsky
Parisina - Donizetti
Entre Cloches - Ravel
Scottish - Mendelssohn
Taras Bulba - Janacek

TEMPEST - Tchaikovsky

I think I've only ever heard the symphonies  Tongue

The Janacek is correct, John. No, not Dvorak's 9th, but not the 'Scottish' or 'Manfred', so what does that leave...?  Wink

Apart from the Donizetti opera, all the others are orchestral pieces, including a couple linked to a particular time of day.  Wink

I think I might have to reveal this one if nobody gets it soon!

Donizetti
Dvorak
Janacek
Mendelssohn
Poulenc
Ravel
Tchaikovsky

Clues - the Mendelssohn and Tchaikovsky are symphonies, the Donizetti an opera. All others are orchestral pieces, two of them linked to the same time of day.

The first letters of each work rearranged will give an eighth work by one of the above composers.

Grande Inquisitor, This is too difficult for me, but I am trying.
Ravel has an opera Spanish hour.
Janacek is Taras Bulba
Dvorak has a Noon time witch symphonic poem.

Yes, Taras Bulba is the Janacek piece, but the Ravel isn't operatic...but it is Spanish in flavour.  Wink

Donizetti
Dvorak
Taras Bulba - Janacek
Mendelssohn
Poulenc
Ravel
Tchaikovsky

Yes, indeed! That's one of the morning pieces...

Donizetti
Dvorak
Taras Bulba - Janacek
Mendelssohn
Poulenc
Alborada del gracioso - Ravel
Tchaikovsky

Getting the symphonies would also help...
