I've been beaten to 1556, but I'm going to post it anyway. Shakespeare's wife, Anne Hathaway, was born in 1556. I googled her, but got pages of photos of some bimbo. Here is her cottage in Shottery (not the bimbo's).

Giovanni Gabrielli, composer and wife-slayer*, born 1557. (Possibly.)

* Yes, I know he didn't perform the deed himself, but simply ordered the deaths of both her and her lover after having discovered them in flagrante.

QEI crowned, 1558...

Er, Ron, was that Gabriel(l)i or Gesualdo the uxoricide? In any case there are plenty of accounts to suggest that Gesualdo at least took part in the sordid business...

Yes, Oz, every account seems to be increasingly confused. Perhaps it was just expected behaviour for a composer of those times....

However, bearing in mind your great love of The Book of Common Prayer, here's a page from the 1559 edition.

Time to put another spanner in the works, I fear: it's a bit of a wrench, really...
