Hope you got to sleep eventually, h-h. I've been awake since ten past five, which has put me in a very bad mood.

I did get to sleep shortly after (well, two cheese muffins, some hot milk and a couple of chapters of Anne Radcliffe later) but then was awoken by my neighbour taking furniture apart with a hammer at 9. So it's been a slow morning but at least I've cut my finger and toenails. Piano playing might be a little more accurate today.

I've had trouble sleeping for about the last week because of this ******* cold.
RANT TIME!!!!!!!!!!! What's the point of being ill with a stupid germ? I mean, what big design flaw in the universe is that? A tiny weeny little brainless bacteria finds a nice warm place to reproduce, happily carrying on until the immune system goes "hahahahaha time to die" and wipes it out. Totally bloody pointless. The bacteria, if it had a brain could have thought "oh, I'd better not go in there and reproduce, I'll just end up dead" but no. Result sore throat, sniffing, bad mood and lack of sleep.
As you may have gathered, I resent being ill.
I did manage a few hours sleep last night though so am feeling somewhat better and my piano playing this morning has been excellent so I must be on the mend.

What an interesting mental picture! I could understand the importance of cutting toenails for the barefoot organist, but it never occurred to me that one might play the piano with the pedal extremeties. Is this perhaps a technique learned from Piano Circus?Any comments, T-P?

I agree - there's no point at all in colds, or any other illness come to that, but they do make you appreciate being well, instead of taking it for granted. Same way, I suppose, that insomnia (grrrr) makes one appreciate a good night's sleep. Which I may get, sometime.
I'm still in a bad temper.

Well the fingernails are a sop to the piano, but well trimmed toenails seem to be helpful when it comes to sharing a bed.

Oh, I don't know. I have been told they can have a certain anticipatory appeal in certain moods.

What's empirical about sound? You can't write an article about it in die Reihe, that's for sure.

Me too, Morticia.
I passed the time posting on the Britten/Verdi thread, and it would have been much better if I'd waited until I was less tired and might have written more sense.
I'm going to try to sleep now.

Finished my little chores and now heading for bed. Alarm set for 8am because I have to pack in the morning and catch a bus, but it's looking good so far! I'll be out of broadband for a while (until next Tuesday) so you probably won't see me all that time. Have fun!
