I was planning to carry out a, long overlooked, recount of my juniper berry jar. Time permitting, I hope to include the Allspice berries as well, after which I will join George and Tinners in the Rat and Derriere for a small sherry. All juniper berries weigh equal. Just count about 20 of them, weigh that, then weigh the jar, then weigh the jar while it's empty. Then do the math. Use the remainder of your weekend to thank me for saving you time.

They are all of identical weight? Isn't that remarkable, given that they are a naturally occuring body? You will say that taking a large enough sample will tend to equalize a normal range of disparity from the average, but one can never be too safe when counting juniper berries, can one?

Thank goodness my days of inventorying the paperclip requisition are behind me (for now, at any rate). Tomorrow we go with no map and my unerring sense of direction (aka S D!) to get a replacement for the fridge which now cooks like a dream.

With my black peppercorns it's not so much the counting as the checking. Viz: Roslynmuse on the Hypochondriac Thread Another warning - apparently the major cause of digestive problems is the use of black pepper; some careless/unscrupulous traders allow rat droppings to bulk out their black peppercorn packs. Who here examines every corn before grinding?

Sounds a wonderful way to spend a rare and precious sunny day, euranto. The Downs round Alfriston is (are?) one of my favourite places anywhere. "Positive sentiments", "positive sentiments", "positive sentiments"

o, darn it! I've just gone and got myself locked out of my Photobucket account... try back later it says... sorry George! "rare and precious" indeed I'd been waiting a while to do it. I was worried it could be really muddy (starting off by the river and all), but it wasn't at all bad in fact. It was certainly a walk of two halves; the first on the Downs, the second mostly on suburban pavements (heading for Pevensey). I hope I never set eyes on the A2270 again... but as a taster (taken from the South Downs Way near Southease in February)

Yes, wonderful pics, Eruanto: like Martle I live no more than a few minutes' drive away, and we have a view of the Downs from the house - to the great envy of London visitors!

At every one of these [classical] concerts in England you will find rows of weary people who are there, not because they really like classical music, but because they think they ought to like it. (Shaw, Don Juan in Hell)
