Wow - torrential rain like I've not seen before for a long time. Pavement and road are indistinguishable when I look out of the window - is it like this elsewhere?

It was a couple of hours ago, down here on the coast; but it's cleared up nicely now. I think this front is moving northwards, so Croydon should be dry soon...!

The patio is a lake at the moment. Unfortunate that the garden slopes down to it, so all the water collects down there. When it was really going full strength, I half thought I might have to go outside and rescue the bunny from the hutch. Didn't come to that, thankfully. Wellies not needed.  Grin

If it is moving northwards that means I'll only be bit later than I had anticipated for tonight's Prom. !! good !!

We have no rain at all at present, but the sky looks dull and grey.  We had a glorious day yesterday.

It says on my newspage that 2 months' rain will fall in one day in parts of the country but it seems to be from Wales across the Midlands and down, so we might be lucky up here.  In fact we've been very lucky altogether so far.

I hope I don't regret saying that.  Roll Eyes

We've got to the lightning and thunder bit now and the rain is being hurled down in giant handfuls rather than being allowed to fall naturally. I've had two visits by other people's cats this morning asking if they can come in. They're currently in separate bedrooms and may or may not know of each other's existence.

Crumbs. It's just got much worse as I type. I'm heading under the table. See you later.....

Ok it's raining now.  Just normal at the moment  - nothing spectacular yet.  The dog won't want to go out anyway, he hates the rain.  I'll just have to push him (literally) into the garden and he'll shoot back in like a rocket as soon as he possibly can.

This is the road at the front of the house about half an hour ago. A bit better now, sun out , a sort of 'Woops did anyone notice that ?' sort of day !

As you'll see if you tune in to the Open it's grey but dry here, today. A couple of days ago we drove up to the wonderful House of Dun, not far north of here, where we sat outside the stable yard in hot sun having a scone tea. Twenty minutes later as we drove back, there was a violent thunderstorm, with visibility so poor that I needed to slow the car right down to walking pace: the topsoil was being rinsed off the hills onto the road in sheets. Yet five minutes later the next town, Forfar, was completely dry and in bright sunshine again. The storms seem to be very localised.

Sounds a bit like what we had two days ago.

The patio is a lake at the moment. Unfortunate that the garden slopes down to it, so all the water collects down there.

Yeah our garden slopes that way too, clay soil so water isn't soaked up, the water on the patio runs either into our drain or into next door's and from his onto the street. We're near the top of a bit of slightly 'higher' ground, half mile from nearest river and flood plain,  so you'd think we'd have no flood problems but, because of the clay soil, last weekend we found the shed was sitting over a pool of water so had to dig a narrow channel from the patio (where there's a drain) up to the shed and release the water. A nice flow of water down the channel this morning, so I think that channel will become a permanent garden feature!
