She's got that slightly pale, halting expression, wanting to come out of her shell but never totally able to do so, that is quite exquisite in its own way. You can see it in the way she teeters a little on her heels, her somewhat tight outfit intended to be daring, but clearly feeling just a little uncomfortable and as such attracting attention that she cannot completely control or direct.

Does the above form part of that terrible thing that happened to you some 20 years ago? Best, Alistair

Nobody's welcomed skadoo yet but I haven't the heart to start another new welcome thread, most of them never appear again anyway ( honourable exceptions of course, like dotcommunist and notoriously bombastic ).

Ollie, Then he picked the glass up and tasted it and sighed again and shook his head sideways with a half smile; the way a man does when you give him a drink and he needs it very badly and it is just right and the first swallow is like a peek into a cleaner, sunnier, brighter world.

I'd been out peeking under old Sunday sections for a barber named Dominick whose wife wanted him back - I forget why. Only reason I took the job was because my bank account was trying to crawl under a duck.

Gordon? Downie or Brownie? (no points either way, however, methinks...) Best, Alistair

my bank account was trying to crawl under a duck.
I can honestly admit that I've never encountered a duck large enough to be capable of hiding the level of overdraft that I find myself having to run - which gives a whole new meaning to the term "canard", does it not?... Best, Alistair
