My sister said I was 'eccentric' yesterday because I went to listen to radio 3 in the 'family room' instead of watching 'back to the future' on dvd with her and her kids.

Are you also an eccentric to your family ?

Listening to classical music makes me eccentric too. Many of my friends listen to pop songs only.
I think if a person likes classical music he has an intellect.

When I look at my family carefully, both 'my' family and my extended family - I can honestly say I am not the most eccentric!
My brother, about 40 years ago , when he had just started as a solicitor used to come back from the office and lie on the bed still with his coat on, and play the guitar.
My dad escorted toads across the road..... shall I go on....?  Roll Eyes

She may have a point! Why (I ask myself) did you not ask HER to take the kids to the 'family room' to watch the DVD, leaving you (in the 'non-family' room) to remain alone and undisturbed with your own R3?

Just a thought.

Because she and kids settled in living room around a big tv with curry, watching the film and the family room has a small tv and no dvd player and anyway, tis totally pointless asking my sister to do anything as she is always right and everyone else wrong.

After I mentioned my auntie linda saying it was good that I and cousin paul accepted the mental health problems in our extended family and had chosen to live 'low stress lifestyles' and had talked about 'posh girls' and had advised her that they 'very expensive' and 'don't marry if unable to find a posh bloke but good as a friends' and that 'i know my place' my sister said 'i should, and stop going to opera as that for posh people'.

Being eccentric beyond belief, i think, i shall, on reflection, do what I want but hey, i am eccentric !  Grin

point to note...

my uncle, his wife and grandma are off to something classical

http://www.bbc.co.uk/leeds/content/articles/2007/07/30/music_classical_fantasia_feature.shtml

though...am surprised that my uncle does not listen to radio 3

My nephew max likes his dads 'favourite classics' classical music cd Smiley

I showed him a youtube video of janine and the pic of me with her, swore him to secrecy though, told him not to tell bossy mummy Smiley

My sister does not like classical music, though mum did used to listen a lot, oddly enough, my uncle ian on my father's side used to teach dance off oxford street ( big ballet fan ).

mmmm, mixed up genes i finky, I like to think that if tv had not been invented our family may have taken more of an interest in music, but one never knows eh

At the expense of boredom - and really sorry to press the point m'Lord, BUT...

As I understand it, you have set up a 'family room' dedicated SOLELY to R3, and (presumably) a 'non-family' room for all other electronic entertainment. Correct?

Well, how extraordinarily ECCENTRIC!

Your eccenticity knows (apparently) no bounds m'Lord! If the 'family room' is merely a converted garage, WHY (in heaven's name) would you even CONSIDER using it to listen to R3 instead of 'Garage Music'.

They've got a point you know!

Yes, they all think I'm nuts but I'm obviously so eccentric that have even stopped commenting on it.  It's not just becuase of the music but couple that with the conchology, the growing cacti, the sci-fi watching, the lack of interest in clothes or football, the not caring about what people think about me, my usage of antiquated expressions...erm, need I continue?   Cool
