I'm going to bed too. Hopefully I'll have some kind of epiphany tomorrow...
Night all.

In the absence of any actual speakers of the language

Wat bedoel je met deze "afwezigheid"?
Should I perhaps have specified "in the absence of any actual speakers of the language who can be bothered replying"? Hm? Should I? Wink

'you're welcome' is I believe 'alstublieft' or 'alsjeblieft'
Ah, same as 'please' then? I suppose that makes sense on the German model: it's just that I took 'alstublieft' to mean 'if you please', and 's'il vous plaît' would be an odd way of saying 'you're welcome' in French ...

Schlaf lecker, anyway. Wink

Good night all! A short night it shall be for me, but I look forward to witnessing more deterioration tomorrow, if not on these boards, then on the backs of my eyelids or on the assignment pages of my counterpoint students.

It would indeed, but 'je vous en prie' is still a perfectly normal way of saying 'you're welcome' even though it's no longer such a normal way of saying 'please'...

Good night Turfan Fragment.
Sleep well and you will finish with contrapoint papers very quickly. Remember to give them each extra ten point from the goodness of your heart.
Best wishes,

Hey all,
This is a really special thank you.  I know I rarely pop over to these boards of an evening but tonight has been a little different and everyone has been so sweet that I've really cheered up - you've all restored my faith in human nature.

Thank you all and see you soon.

Hugs,

Kiss

It's unusual for me to be feeling like this at 11:30pm but I feel absolutely zonked. All of a sudden while making cheese scones I suddenly felt all the energy go out of me so I'm heading to bed.
Perhaps this heralds the beginning of some sensible sleeping patterns...

Good luck tomorrow Ruby.

Oh my goodness is that the time? Gosh, one listens to a couple of Mahler symphonies and pods an opera or two and that's the evening done with.

Up the ladder again. Sweet dreams, all.

For some reason I just had a power shortage.  I'll have to reset all the clocks now.  Sad  It will have to wait till morning.  Just too tired.  I had a look in my bedroom just now and there's a child and a boxer dog asleep on my bed!  Shocked  Not much room for me then.  Roll Eyes

Good night all.
