Good morning. I sometimes feel that if I wake up to another day of pouring rain I shall go mad. It's gone off a bit now, and there are signs of spring - bulbs coming up in the garden, birds singing loudly at dawn, or even before. Perhaps the end of the world isn't at hand, after all.

I think we all need a bit of sunshine, t-p. I hope you feel brighter soon.

It's torrential here and forecast not only just for today, but for all week.  The South-West seems to be taking more of the brunt of it, but it's all up the West side and there has been more rain here since Christmas than I ever remember seeing.

We have extensive flooding inland because the ground is very marshy anyway.  They have built intensively on this land and they're suffering for it now.  They have pumping stations on one of the new very expensive housing estates further down, which is working 24 hours a day to keep the water down as much as possible.  The rest of the properties though are at the mercy of flooded fields and roads.  It's very flat in this region.

Where I am, we've been lucky so far.  Sand is very good drainage as it happens.  However, if this keeps up I can foresee problems even for us.  The drains are beginning to overflow at the sides of the roads.

Nothing we can do about it, but just sit tight and hope for the best.

Well, aoart from the provisos that with my rugged outdoor pursuits-type sensibilities it will be several light layers and a fleece, I'm with you there, Mort, although much of the day will be spent indoors up-country hopefully sorting out someone else's PC problems - they've been hit good and proper with nasties, and I'm probably going to have to clone their whole hard drive to a new one and then start again from scratch with a new installation before moving the files back. Not the speediest of processes...

Holy cow! It is truly horrible out there. I just popped to the local shop, got drenched, blown into a fence (ouch) and then the ruddy wind yanked my umbrella out of my hand and chucked it over a garden wall (the umbrella, not my hand Shocked)  Needless to say, no one was at home. So short of clambering over said wall to retrieve it, I am now sans brolly Angry  That`s me indoors for the rest of the day.

Thank you, Mary.
The mother of a student recommended the book of Viktor Frankl Man's search for meaning. I googled and read about the author and the book.
Milly, I can not imagine the level of stress one goes if their house is flooded. There will be some breaks in rain. Our rain here have stopped for now.

Ron, good luck with the boring (seems to me) routine, but after computer is working again one feels so elated.

MOrticia, Good that you made it home. Where is that poor unbrella now? It is going to take an unexpected trip around the world.

Speaking about bad weather, it is snowing heavily in America and probably Canada too. I saw it on the news.

The gales have gone and it has temporarily stopped raining for half an hour.  We are on Flood Warning at the moment, and likely to stay on Warning for some days as the water makes its way downstream from the mountains.  There are 37 Floor Warnings in place for Wales and 125 rivers on Flood Watch  Sad  The South West, North West and Scotland are all coloured red on the Met Office severe weather map!  Will it never end?

Well that's it then.  The river at the bottom of my hill has burst its banks, the road has been closed  Sad  It not 100% cut off, just checked with the bus supervisor, they are running a reverse route but only 3/4 of the route which means where I get off I will have to walk the last part in the pitchy black down unlit roads.  Oh Poo!  As Mort would say.  So, I am taking tomorrow off.

Too late!  Pitch black here.  Car headlights on full for at least half an hour.  Anty will be going home in the dark tonight.   Shocked

Anty I think you do right to have the day off tomorrow.  Mmmm.  Just think! Lie in, all cosy and warm.  Smiley

I did.  Hurrah    and God Bless all Bus Drivers.  I got on the bus and s   aid I would get off where they were going to turn round but he s   aid “No, I am taking you to the end of your road!  Don’t   argue!!”  Wasn’t that lovely?

So nice day at home tomorrow, my Nigel Slater book has arrived but this keyboard is still not working properly so I ‘m having to reply in word, backspacing everything and then cut    and paste   If I try    and reply on the MB it freezes up on me
