Old joke
How do you turn a duck into a folk singer?
Put it in the microwave until it's Bill Withers.
Boom, Boom!

Morning all. Gloomy. Cold. Windy. Yuck. The perfect excuse to stay in and impose order on my unruly paperwork and general chaos. Groan .

Good morning Mort. Wind? Did you say WIND? See my post on the waffle thread! No trouble getting on to the boards this morning though. That scuppers my thought that problems might be weather-related.

Good morning everybody. I am fiendishly busy at work (a situation expected to continue into next month) and the weather is dull, damp and grey (a situation which I sincerely hope isn't). Off to the Young Vic this evening to see this: http://www.youngvic.org/whats-on?action=details&id=1631

Lucky you Ruth. Enjoy! It's been peeing down here all morning and so I haven't been out with the dog yet. He wouldn't mind it but I'm not terribly keen on trudging around in the pouring rain. I'm in the office doing loads of paperwork and paying bills etc. Quite depressing really - all the Christmas/winter bills starting to come in, plus my tax bill. Ah well, got some friends coming round tonight for Bridge and taking my other little grandson aged 2 for his kindergarten uniform this afternoon. He has started there at the same school as my other one. That's nice. The day should improve as it goes on.

Is not two rather young for the Kindergarten Madame Millicent? Are they not required to possess teeth and hair before they may be admitted?

I wholeheartedly agree Mr. Grew! Unfortunately, however, it is not up to me. I just have to pay the fees. It is an independent school and they do take them from two years old. I'm afraid I was one of a dying breed of mothers who wanted their children at home with them till the very last minute before school. I could understand it more if she was working of course, but she isn't. I had more of a say with the one who lives with me, because I looked after him for his mother for 80% of the time from two weeks old until she left and he came to live with me 24/7. He is now seven and unfortunately, I don't feel that I could do that all over again now with another toddler.
So, I have said nothing, to keep the peace.

I think I ought to learn to say nothing in order to keep the peace, Milly! I'm not too good at that. I'm going to have to learn to shut up on the subject of my son's wedding, as my views on weddings (as small and quiet as possible) definitely don't coincide with his, and I fear we will get the works.
The thought of a 2-year-old in uniform is a bit sad! What does the poor child have to wear? I'm imagining (I suspect wrongly) blazer and school cap.

It's not too bad Mary, it's a little school tracksuit and white polo shirt with the school logo on and trainers. No blazers/caps. They don't have to wear those till they start in reception at 4 years. As far as keeping the peace is concerned, daughters-in-law and extended families generally, can be a veritable emotional minefield. I made a resolution from the word 'go' that I would never be an interfering mother-in-law. I'm there for them when they have problems (and BOY do they all constantly have problems despite my best efforts!) but unless my opinion is specifically asked for, I never give it. Even when it is asked for, I'm cautious and think carefully before I answer. Life is too short and I've been through too much in my life to be able to take much hassle any more. I'm weary. I've just got back from buying said school supplies and then we went for a coffee/cake which was all great fun. Off on the school run now for "mine".

Good morning everybody.
The weather is absolutely revolting, and I still have this cold (and very sore throat) so am on the Lemsip.
I hope it is fine tomorrow as I have lots to do over the weekend and know I'm more likely to keep myself motivated if I alternate "outdoor chores" (i.e. going to the market, taking bags of junk to charity shop etc) with "indoor chores" (i.e. housework and cooking for the freezer). Tomorrow is that rare thing, a completely free Saturday - so would like to make the most of it, although I have been having trouble waking up at a reasonable hour since coming down with this cold, so what's the betting I waste half the day before I even wake up?

Ruth, I don't think it is a waste if you can rest (sleep) half Saturday. After restful sleep one can feel energized. Also good rest helps to fight cold.
We have a good morning here, bright. I finished cleaning the house.
