Milly, about weak teeth...
Did your grandson have a severe viral infection during the stage of life when his adult teeth would have been waiting to come through (i.e. ages 2-5 ish)?
I only ask because my sister always had awful teeth and was referred to a dental hospital whereupon my mum was asked this question. The answer was yes, she had particularly severe chickenpox aged 3. I had it at the same time, aged six.
The consequences for me were constant ENT infections causing me lots of pain and discomfort throughout the rest of my childhood. The consequences for my sister - according to her dental consultant - were the destruction of her milk teeth, and a permanent "tide mark" on her adult teeth marking her medical history like rings in a tree trunk.
Hmm. He did have severe chicken pox at 5 years, which could be the problem then? However, his mother had dreadful teeth and at the age of 34 has none of her own. This is why I'm worried about the "gene" problem. There is no doubt that his milk teeth are lamentable for whatever reason.....I can only hope that the next set are better. There's one coming down quite rapidly at the front. I'm sure I didn't get second teeth this early. He's only 7. He's the tallest in the class though so perhaps he's an early developer?

Isn't it strange that I can see my mistakes if someone writes it back to me, but I don't see anything wrong when I type it myself?
No! This is possibly one of the main reasons I am somewhat averse to reading things I have written...

Good morning all. We have dark, windy, rainy morning. I am getting ready for the day ahead. Yesterday I had some success with my teaching and am still excited about it. A few students are getting better. The best thing is that some of the students are developing interest in music. One of the students is playing Rachmaninoff Prelude and now Debussy Prelude. He doesn't want to take exams which is fine with me. I have him for about five years and he did not want to play piano at all. Now he plays cello and piano. He is not going to be professional, but he will keep interest in music during his life. Today I have only one student that I had to take on my free day. This is my new project. I have to get him ready for Associated Board grade 3 exam. Every new student is a challenge. May be what I do is not interesting for many. People want success, achievement, fame. I have to accept everybody and can not select. Every new student is a challenge, but also I learn a lot from them. Just decided to wrote something. I still don't feel completely recovered, but don't feel as bad.
I wish everyone a good day, even if the weather is not good.

I'm glad you're feeling just a little better, t-p. So am I. Yesterday when the sun actually shone, and it didn't rain at all, I felt almost human! Today the weather is back to grey and gloom again.
I think you are doing a very valuable job. If you help the musical understanding of even one person - and I'm sure there are many more than that! - you have improved the world and helped civilisation. I can think of few things more important.

Seconded! And, similarly for MJ and IGI. What could possibly be more important, and I hope fulfilling, than teaching young children and setting them on their way in life? It's something I've often wished I'd done (and if I'd known about cakes in the staff room...).

Mmmm, thank you Mort. A little bit of each please. (Unrolls marzipan from slice of Battenberg so I can eat it last to annoy little brother who has already eaten his.) I once got 1,000 lines for sticking a "Den of Antiquity" notice on the Staff Room door. I thought it was funny but 'Basher' Bartlett (the History Master) didn't [Cultural history note: 'Lines' meant something different then.]
