...Ali announced that the archbishop had come to see me.

['afternoon of'?]

It makes a nice pairing with Rose Macauley's opening line from Towers of Trebizon:

Take my camel, dear,' said my Aunt Dot, climbing down from that animal on her return from High Mass.

'afternoon of'?
Yes, I suppose that's more likely. More decadent.

Thanks, George. Smiley Haven't read that since I was about 12, believe it or not!

I've just been laughing looking at the old threads in TOP - indeed, happy (and often very silly) times!

We were due an "inspection" of the classroom by our acting Head today (learning environment, organisation, displays etc - yet another thing to find fault with and nag us about... Angry) but were informed first thing that her car was stuck in some mud so she couldn't come in... well, that certainly made us smile! Grin

I'm happy but feeling absolutely podged.  Been out for dinner with the rest of the Year 2 mums for Christmas.  I ordered halibut and they brought me such a huge piece I couldn't finish it!  I'm usually veggie but thought I'd have some fish for a change.  It was like eating a steak - massive.  No room for dessert...
Nice to go out for a change anyway.  Cheesy

¿Qué? Since I'm not draped in holly myself I'm not sure how I've inspired that particular festive look!  Cheesy

Podged is a lovely word. I don't think I've ever heard it before. Does it mean tired, or full of food?
