Good light today, so the cameras had an outing in between bashing bots and hitting the Gym. The usefulness of a long lens apparent here: looking towards the Bell Rock lighthouse, almost 14 miles away, built to protect shipping from the dangerous outcrop of rock at Inchcape, the drastic effect of which can be seen quite plainly by the amount of white water crashing around it.

This picture is so beautiful, Ron Dough. It took my breath away when I saw it appear on the screen.

It is so beautiful there. The colours are fantastic.

Great work, Ron, and lovely to see your other shots in your flickr account, especially the Carnoustie ones with those fabulous skies.

One more of today's, from about a mile closer to us than the other, up on the hilly ridge above the main Dundee to Arbroath road, perhaps thirty minutes' walk from here.

We're looking across two firths: the one which dominates the picture is the silvery Tay, with Fife's eastern extremity, Fife Ness, behind it - eighteen miles away. Beyond that are the Lammermuir Hills, south of Dunbar, and thus south-east of Edinburgh, on the far side of the Firth of Forth, about forty-five miles as the crow flies. Despite this considerable distance, and the fact that the Forth often has worse weather than the Tay, they're visible far more often than not.

This is also beautiful, Ron Dough.

Mountains across the bay look a little like here.
Everything is so clear. I can see every grass. the sky is beautiful.

It's early autumn, without a doubt.

The light has been splendid all day, just right for the sprouting winter barley, and the trees just starting to turn.

Great, Ron. The leaves are starting to turn here too, so I must try and get out with the camera soon.

No autumnal shots for me yet, this is a pic of the new Queen Elizabeth Hospital taken from the new Selly Oak Relief Road (or whatever it's called).

Here's an autumnal photo I took in Dent, in the Yorkshire Dales the other day:

For some reason that's not as sharp as the picture actually looks when I view it from my hard drive, but I can't work out why... Undecided

Here is Turner's view of the Bell Light from a rather closer vantage point:

And for those requiring further orientation here is its infamous situation:

It looks like many of my photos "Mrs K", the lighthouse is tilting to the right Cheesy I took a whole batch of photos yesterday at the same location as my earlier post and nearly every one was slightly crooked, I just can't seem to hold the camera straight. Thanks heavens for the "straighten" facility in Picasa, which I use to make basic adjustments like straightening and cropping - it's very quick and easy.

There's an open-air exhibition of photos by Sir Benjamin Stone (1838-1914), a local MP and keen photographer, outside Symphony Hall and the Rep. I like the idea of this display, and it makes for something which is worth photographing itself. Here's three I snapped on my little camera on Tuesday:

I have wondered what the word [cotitsalv] under Andy and others' posts means.  Any enlightenment.

I take it the picture of Senators Obama and McCain is enhanced, at least as far as McCain goes.
