ClassicalMusicMayhem is a new site/forum devoted to classical music with a focus on recordings, many free music downloads available to members only join up (that's free too).

Other specialisms at CMM are HIP performance and critical reassessment of accepted musical thought.

Feel free to join:

Hmmm, a poll in which Callas is voted as a "wailing banshee" by 100% of respondents doesn't endear me to the forum, Rod...

... I think I'll be staying here for a while  Wink

It maybe means my membership so far aren't deaf? But that is no reason for you not to join, or do you only go to a place where everyone agrees with you? Where's the fun in that???

In fact on the contrary we need people like you to redress the balance. There are a host of HIP enthusiasts there who need to be put in their place!

What military rank do I receive upon first joining? Do I have to scrub your lavatory?

No thanks.

Methinks thou dost protest too much...

You get the same rank that everyone gets when joining, myself included. But you've missed the joke and the connection with the military rankings and the title of the forum...  Roll Eyes

I would have more respect if you presented some criticism of the discussions there (not that there is any to be found as yet), but you seem too concerned with trivia.

PS You seem to forget there is a military ranking system at this forum. You are only a one star general at the moment it appears...

I'd expect more from a 5 star general, but at least it is proof ranks are not awarded here on the basis of merit. You haven't even posted enough to get a rank of this level at my site.

Rod, thanks for inviting us to come and play in your playground, but if we don`t want to, well, you can`t make us. Nothing personal !

Rod, thanks for inviting us to come and play in your playground, but if we don`t want to, well, you can`t make us. Nothing personal !

I'm forcing nobody, I simply think the reasons presented so far by members why they do not wish to join seem rather facile. I would simply have said nothing if I was them.

I'm just presenting a site for people to consider. If they do not wish to join that's fair enough. But you will find members have access to a lot of music tracks which makes this forum stand out from all the others. There is less waffle and more music at my site, this is the reason why I created it. Based on my 10 years experience of classical music forums on the web it seems the music itself is given a lower priority than self indulgent chit chat.

There is nothing to stop people being a member of more than one CM forum, I'm a member of just about all of them myself!!

Plus it is not a playground, there is cutting edge debate there in comparison to most popular CM forums, and It's only been going a couple of weeks.

If calling respected performers in other genres childish names is the level of "cutting-edge debate", then you are far too lofty and cutting-edge for me.   There is a bloke who uses the nickname "Mumblesford" though, who sounds like he might be just the kind of new member you are looking for...  maybe you should find him?
