. . . your example is completely silent on my system, Mr Grew . . .

No problems here - we (who use Opera) downloaded both the rapidshare and the sendspace versions of Puzzle 49, saved them in a directory on our local hard disc, waited - the work of an instant - in each case for the transfer to finish, and then successfully opened and played each of them with something called "Windows Media Player 9."

Quote from Anty:

Have I downloaded the wrong file
?  Puzzle 47 appears to be 'I'd like to teach the world to sing' by the New Seekers

Reply from Andy D:

Tee hee anty, that made me chuckle

But it was true Andy, and I have witnesses at the office to prove it.  So I thought someone was having a laugh but thought I'd snatch the 100 points for correct identification before anyone else.  I did download it 3 times in a row just to make sure so, in theory I should have the 100 points shouldn't I?   Cheesy

(Haven't figured out how to do quotes from other threads and did not wish to incur the displeasure of the Esteemed Mr. Grew in being off-topic)

I don't think anyone's had a crack at Puzzle 35 yet. Pity. It closes tomorrow lunchtime.

Anty: I think that was my snatch - but it certainly wasn't the New Seekers I uploaded!  Grin

Don't know how that happened! Was it the Rapidshare or Sendspace site that confused it?

I've listened several times to it, IGI, but no cigar. It's not another of your obscure Mendelssohns is it?

Stuart,

It was Rapidspace, Sendspace wouldn't load, and weirdest of all, when it was playing the words  "In girum imus nocte et consumimur igni" were rolling on Real Player.

I thought that may have been a cryptic clue so at first I tried googling that  Shocked

Then I tried to find a palindrome for the Coca Cola advert!!

Then I thought you were just having a joke because you said the Rachmaninov was too easy  Cheesy

Not Mendelssohn, no.

This composer hasn't featured so far, I believe. Perhaps my Puzzle 25, which expired this morning, could give you a clue?  Wink

As Richard would say, moving right along... Roll Eyes

Anty, it's just got to be mid-19thC, and IGI's hint suggests it's Italian. Uh? A piano concerto, or at least a chamber piece involving piano, clarinet and strings. I'm stumped, meself.  Embarrassed

It certainly doesn't sound Italian to me...but I can't think what else IGI's hint could pertain to.  Huh

P.S. "that's be" ?
I meant 'that'd be'. But I'm not allowed to edit my posts over on that other thread, especially when they contain the correct answer and I want some points!

Has Baz identified any snatches yet?

Marty, quite right, Move Along There and Don't Block the Fire Escape.  We may need it.

Well, I sort of thought, hmm, Lombardi ??  That took me up a blind alley.  (Ooer Missus!)  However, I am not totally convinced it is Italian.

I also am stumped and feel I have to morph into a Domestic Goddess for a while.  It does sound very familiar though.

Possibly the genre....

However, I am not totally convinced it is Italian.

It's not.

It sounds like the slow movement of a chamber work by Mendelssohn, or even Schubert. But with clarinet? Anyway, IGI, are you suggesting this is from an opera?!
