So as not be ruled off topic, we'll have another pop at 260: Pastoral by Bliss.

Not Bliss - not very...wet.

A further clue towards 260 then: our composer is not so well known as his offspring!  Wink

And a further clue towards 247: it is, as previously clued, a violin concerto but its accompaniment, rather than being for symphony orchestra, is scored for the following instruments: 2 piccolos, Eb, Bb and bass clarinets, 2 bassoons and contrabassoon, cornet, trombone, tuba, percussion and four each of violas, cellos and basses.

We think we're allowed to post another two:

Puzzle 269

Puzzle 270

5504 + 20 for the last guess we had (Bliss Pastoral) + 200 for these two = 5724.

247: Coulod it be Kurt Weill's Concerto for Violin and Wind Orchestra, Op.12?

15586 + 20 = 15606

Puzzle 270

5504 + 20 for the last guess we had (Bliss Pastoral) + 200 for these two = 5724.

270 = Peter Warlock's Yarmouth Fair

15606 + 20 = 15626

247: Not quite, Mr I, there being, as mentioned, twelve string instruments in the ensemble. You're heading in the right direction though.

270 = Peter Warlock's Yarmouth Fair

15606 + 20 = 15626

Yarmouth Fair, sung by the unmistakeable Owen Brannigan. I thought that would be an easy one but the other one (269) might be more of a challenge.

Hurrah!

269 - I did wonder about Spohr or Crusell, but will have a shot at Carl Stamitz instead - Clarinet Concerto No. 10 in B flat major?

15626 + 350 for the Warlock = 15976 + 20 for this guess = 15996

247 is, I think., from Weill's second symphony.

247 is, I think., from Weill's second symphony.
It is, as previous clues have stated, from the first movement of a concerto for violin and a rather strangely-constituted chamber orchestra, written at some time in the 1920s. It isn't Weill's concerto for violin and winds, and indeed I can reveal that it isn't anything else by Weill either.

I suppose it must be my strangely warped musical "education", but I thought this was a fairly well-known (if not very often performed) piece...

... it won't happen again...

I'm stumped too, although whatever it is it's very wonderful, on the basis of Mr Barrett's snatch, and I'd like to have it.

I shall hazard a guess at Mr Grew's No.266 - is it Bach's Cantata No. 210, O holder Tag, erwünschte Zeit, BWV 210?

Unfortunately it is not that!

Another wild guess at 247. How about Werner Egk''s concerto for violin and chamber orchestra of 1928?

By Egk! No, it's by a far more well-known composer than that.
