A clue: Puzzle 238 is its composer's earliest surviving work.

Another clue: the composer's newest work will receive its premiere next month. (It would, however, be excluded from this Test, and not merely on chronological grounds.)

3875 + (Clue message = 75 points) = 3950

Absolutely correct, Mr Martle! Puzzle 238 is indeed the opening of Birtwistle's Oockooing Bird (c1950). Congratulations! Cheesy

(We are unsure how many points this brings you: is it 180?)

We have pleasure in presenting two more snatches:

Puzzle 263

Puzzle 264

5093 + 2 x 100 for two new puzzles = 5293!

264 is Lyadov's Baba-Yaga.

Aha, I see self-regulation has been granted!

Therefore, 20 points for a guess = 14323 for yours truly.
+ 75 for the next post + 346 for a correct answer = 14744

Also, congratulations to Mr Sudden on reaching the 15000 point mark!

A clue to No.243 (SendSpace or Rapidshare) - it is from a four movement suite arranged from a ballet.

14323 + 75 for a clue = 14398

Correct solution to #1608

That's 180 + 180 - 14 = 346 points for you, Mr I, and nothing for me since you got it withing 15 minutes (thanks).

A pleasure, Mr Watson. Hurrah! How nice to return home after parents' evening to find a snatch of Lyadov awaiting identification! I confess I have no idea about No.263.

I remind Members of these clues:
232 is actually the tail end of a vocal piece.
234 is an early and drastically uncharacteristic work of its composer.
and add some more:
232 you will notice is composed upon a ground bass and was written by a composer well-known for such things.
234 is the beginning of the first of a set of three songs for soprano and orchestra.
And let us not forget 247, which is by the same composer as one of the others.

I shall be back later to make some wild guesses about the veritable snatchathon of the last 24 hours.

(later on) Oh dear, ran out of time again, well, till tomorrow all, and though this points business is not a great interest of mine I shall claim my 75 for that clue which added to the previous total of 5096 gives me approximately 5171 I think.

Puzzle 238, Herbie Hancock, the Piano.  His new release out next month.

I now award myself 20 points for being so utterly wrong (but urging Members to listen to it) so I am now on The Paltry Grand Total of 410.

A first clue to Puzzle 258 - SendSpace or Rapidshare. Members are seeking a work by a Russian composer.

14744 + 75 = 14819

HERE or HERE is puzzle 266;

HERE or HERE puzzle 267;

and HERE or HERE puzzle 268.

The last two are connected by a common theme in the manner of Mr. Inquisitor.

4310 + 300 = 4610
