But Mr Sudden did indicate that it was from the NMC recital, so, as iTunes is being intolerably slow this evening, we shall plump for Finnissy's Freighttrain Bruise as the answer for 225.

Members will be glad to hear that we do indeed mean the clues we post!

Yes, it is indeed Freightrain Bruise (as our copy of the CD has it but the version with the 2 ts does seem more current online). You will appreciate Mr Inquisitor how sorry we were to see you apparently give up at the previous track!

Here is Puzzle 262.

Fully expecting to miss I shall take a swing at the Kodaly Méditation sur un motif de Claude Debussy.

...Indeed I missed.

old total: 1542
incorrect guess: 20
new total: 1562

Announcement: Self-Scoring

Now that this competition has been running for a couple of months, and Members have become familiar with it, we would like to introduce a system of self-scoring, which will replace the "running log" of messages.

At the end of every message which earns points in the competition thread, we invite Members now to add the remark "This message earns xxx points, which brings my total points to yyy" - or something of that kind. Take for example Member Sudden's message above, in which he guesses at Kodaly. Once he has been informed that the guess is incorrect, he could edit it to read "20 points for this, and my new total is 1562 points."

Give it a try for a week or two. We are sure that if any Member makes a gross error he or she will at once be corrected by other Members!

Sounds disturbingly colloquial to me!

Boo!  Our messages are no more irrelevant than Ian's was!  This is an outrage!

252 is a rather over-energetic performance of one of Maurice Delage's Quatre chants hindous. Dunno how many points I get for that.

autoharp is correct! Well spotted.

We believe the scoring for a successful identification is 180 points plus a bonus where the solution arrives within 3 hours, that bonus to be calculated as 180-m where m is the number of minutes elapsed since the setting of the puzzle. Member autoharp has thus earned himself 180 points.

We believe we have also earned a number of bonus points: one per elapsed quarter-hour since the setting of the puzzle. We have, however, forgotten when we set it...

...ah yes.

puzzle set yesterday at 20:09:37
puzzle solved today at 14:38:33 after 18 hours 26 minutes 56 seconds
old total 1562
18 elapsed whole hours, 1 elapsed quarter hour=73 bonus points
new total 1635

A clue for 236 - the composer is French.

5018 + 75 (clue hint) = 5093 for me!
