Here is a clue for 278...

While some countries have Prime Ministers capable only of strumming guitars or making fools of themselves trying to dance in public, this country's PM was capable not only of writing this particular piece, but also of playing it.

Puzzle 285: SendSpace or Rapidshare

Vivaldi: Concerto in G minor for Bassoon (?)

Would you care to be a bit more specific, Mr Iron - he did write quite a few for bassoon (39 if my memory serves me correctly)! As a clue, it's the second movement from a four movement work, which does have a subtitle in the RV catalogue.  It's not in G minor.

Then what about Vivaldi - Concerto for Bassoon in B flat major, RV 501 "La notte"

Whoo -Hoo!

One of those (rare) works where I just needed the first chord!  Just amazing to think this was written when it was.

Is precisely correct. It's a movement with the subtitle "Fantasmi"! Well hunted down!

Something for the weekend, sir?

Puzzle 289

Puzzle 290

Puzzle 291

Please note that, in accordance with the rules, none of these is from an opera. And I was just about to upload when puzzle 288 appeared, so I've renamed mine 291, but the name of the file is 288. Hope that doesn't confuse too much.

Mr Watson, 289 would be The Foresters, incidental music by Arthur Sullivan based on a play written by Alfred Tennyson.
