Not Gliere, Mr Garnett.

Another clue - the piece concerned was written in 1932. The conductor recorded a good deal, A Verdi Requiem being prominent, but also Berlioz and Stravinsky.

281   Igor Markevitch: Icarus?

(The Suite from the Ballet, that is, as played in concert halls and churches.)

Yes, indeed, Mr Garnett, 281 is the suite 'Envol d'Icare'. A fascinating work I first heard earlier this year and makes me quite eager to hear more of Markevitch's work. Collect 180 points!

Hurrah! I am not always so good with Mozart Piano concertos, being familiar with only a handful.

Puzzle 313, which completes a musically connected trio with 288 and 306: SendSpace or Rapidshare

Yes indeed Mr H and I should be surprised if you didn't also know no.282.

Any takers for no.301? Clue: It's from almost the very end of the first movement of a piano concerto.

Some clues:

Puzzle 293 - this recording is of a recent performance by a leading American orchestra, though not of a performance in the orchestra's own country.

Puzzle 296 - the composer of this piece was fêted
 with beef, toast and paté.

Puzzle 297 - this has a title which might be found a the far end of a tunnel.

It seems no one knows puzzle 303, so it is time for another clue in relation to it. We already know that it was written in 1907 and that there is a strong connection with Coventry. Now we can add that its composer also wrote - much later, in 1941, in the face of national catastrophe under the Hitlerites - a famous symphonic poem for large orchestra and organ, From the Depths, full of muscular counterpoint.
